Rest in peace Levi.

So sad music legends are passing away and no one is here to pick up where they left off!

The Four Tops are one of the few R&B groups that have received The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award .

Did you know that in December 1988, The Tops had actually been scheduled to board Pan Am Flight 103 to return to the U.S. for Christmas after completing their European tour. However, they were late getting out of a recording session and overslept, causing them to miss the ill-fated flight which crashed in Lockerbie, Scotland, after a terrorist bomb was detonated on board [Whew]!!!

Contrary to popular belief, Motown DID release a DVD on The FOUR TOPS as part of their Motown "Definitive DVD" series. It's entitled "THE FOUR TOPS:REACH OUT" , and has no less than 22 full- length performances of their hits. It's available at the above link.

****The FOUR TOPS****

The Four Tops were the first to record the song "I BELIEVE IN YOU AND ME" in 1983, some 13 years before the cover version by Whitney Houston from her movie "The Preacher's Wife. While it wasn't one of their biggest hits, It was a chart hit, and has since become one of their most enduring and most requested songs.

****The FOUR TOPS****

Shortly before his death, Four Tops lead singer LEVI STUBBS ,debilitated by several strokes, and accompanied by his group-mates and Aretha Franklin ,summoned his last remaning strength to sing this very moving version of the song on The Four Tops' 50th Anniversary Special on PBS.

By this time, original member LAWRENCE PAYTON had already died (in 1997), and another original member, Tops bass singer RENALDO "OBIE" BENSON was to pass away shortly after this special was filmed. (in 2005), leaving Tops 1st Tenor Abdul "Duke" Fakir the last living original member of the 4 Tops. Levi died in 2008.

The Four Tops were together, and remained together for an incredible 44 years, from 1953 until 1997,with all of the original members, that's over four decades, having gone without a single change in personnel during that time...a record that, to my knowledge, remains unbroken to this day.

****The Four Tops- "I BELIEVE IN YOU AND ME"****

This is The Four Tops' ORIGINAL VERSION. The song's writers, by Sandy Linzer and David Wolfert, wrote the song especially for them. The BEST version, as far as I'm concerned. (others' opinions may differ).
