The scumbag Eric Burdon didn't feel like leaving SF to go to a show in Sacramento was worth his time. Ended up seeing the rest of the band cover for his sorry butt.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news once again, but not showing up for a gig is pretty LOW RENT...I don't care who it is!! Obviously a lot of people paid money to see him with the Animals.

That's one thing I see that's definitely wrong with popular music in general...don't make a commitment that you can't live up to. "I didn't feel like performing" doesn't cut it and usually means you're one step away from being obscure.

Cheesecake...you'll think that kind of behavior is okay...until you're the one in the crowd waiting for someone who doesn't show up...

that happened to me last year at a Van Morrison concert. He came on stage sang one song and then just walked off and never came back. The crowd was pissed.

So, let me get this straight...you've paid good money to see a group, you've obviously anticipated it for a while, and they or a key member doesn't show...this is alright with you??

That's not being a "breaking all the rules bad boy", that's being an irresponsible HORSES ASS!!!!

Posted by Gitarzan on Sunday, 08.24.08 @ 12:40pm

That kind of reminds me of an interview that Peter Noone (Herman's Hermits) was giving, and he was asked about some of the original "bad boys of rock", like the Rolling Stones. His response was the Rolling Stones were a bunch of "prep school twits".

Another rule of rock..."not everything is as it appears".

Dig it..

MRXYZ...you didn't answer the question! WOULD YOU BE OKAY WITH IT?? I didn't say anything about the Animals as a band, I said no-showing is LOW RENT!

...and what does Mozart have to do with the price of tea in China?? Let me guess...you think you're the biggest rocker on this site. Highly unlikely...

Great band should have gotten in first year eligible

Posted by Rock on Tuesday, 08.26.08 @ 13:25pm

The Animals were one of the greatest bands of the British invasion. They were on par with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks who are often called “the big four” in fact, add The Animals and you get “the big five.” They formed before The Who and The Kinks and around the same time as The Stones. Interestingly, I always thought Eric Burdon’s vocals were remarkably similar to Mick Jagger’s. I always wondered if The Animals influenced The Stones, and The Stones didn’t want to admit it. This would explain why Keith Richards didn’t think to highly of the group, they were after all his band’s biggest rivals. The Animals had a unique style represented by so many excellent songs:

“House of the Rising Sun”
“Bring It on Home to Me”
“We Gotta Get Out of This Place”
“Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”
“It’s My Life”
“Don’t Bring Me Down”
“Little Red Riding Hood”
“When I Was Young”
“Gloria”
“San Franciscan Nights”
“Around and Around”
“Inside Looking Out”
And numerous other fantastic songs.

They should have gotten in the year they were eligible and not waited until 1994. However, judging by the poor quality of the Hall’s inductions I should be happy they weren’t inducted later then they were.

“Hey Gyp”
“Going Down Slowly”
“Mama Told Me Not to Come”
“A Girl Named Sandoz”
“Good Times”
“Orange and Red Beams”
“St. James Infirmary”
“Anything”
“Boom Boom”
“Smokestack Lighting”

I must have missed something but since when were "Gloria" and "Little Red Riding Hood" performed by The Animals?

***Redirected from the Rock Hall Projected Page my mock induction ceremony write-up for the Animals***

The Animals
One of the greatest British Invasion bands of all time, surpassed arguably perhaps only by the "Big Four" (the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and the Kinks) and second only to the Rolling Stones in influence among R&B based bands are the Animals. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Eric Burdon, guitarist Hilton Valentine, bassist Chas Chandler, pianist Alan Price and drummer John Steel. Known for their signature gritty, bluesy sound and their deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon, today they are universally recognizable for the hit "The House of the Rising Sun," featuring the famous electric guitar A minor chord arpeggio by Valentine, Burdon's "howling" and "soulful" vocals and Price's flawless organ playing. The song became the first non-Beatles number 1 in the United States by a foreign artist. Ralph McLean of the BBC described it as not only "the world's first folk rock tune" but a "revolutionary single" after which "the face of modern music changed forever." Further hits like "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "Bring it on Home to Me," "It's My Life," "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "I'm Crying" cemented their status as a premier act. The sound and influence of the Animals is far reaching across multiple decades and generations from Britpop, alternative rock and power pop groups to the Doors, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the Cult and the White Stripes.
