Is this a joke? I mean come if you put Tenacious D in the Hall you might as well put Tom Green in there also for the bum bum song.

tenacious d's music is funny but if you listen to the new album and are an experienced musician or have a good ear for music you will notice that the band is exeptional and Jack's vocal are phenomenal, far beyond that of most male singers in present times. The songs are completely original and yet still manage to incorperate classic styles in the same vein as led zeppelin. At the risk of being shot i would like to say that i think "the pick of destiny" is almost a modern comical "bat out of hell" i am a huge fan of all genres of music, i have hundreds of CD's and find myself putting on tenacious d far more often than anything else. Finally something new that actually sounds good. and if anyone who reads thisa ever gets a chance to see them live, then i urge you to see them as they cannot be fully appreciated otherwise. Long live the D.

Don't compare this band to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd music experts. They're out there to have fun.

What would the Hall of Fame be without "The Greatest Band In The World'?

Not particularly funny, and the music isn't particularly exciting. It's a no from me

The first time I saw/heard Tenacious D was in their movie The Pick of Destiny and it destroyed any chance I would have had at respecting them. Oh, we can only Dio in the movie for 10 seconds because we need the other 2 hours to dedicate to our endless string of penis jokes. Disgraceful.

They got telent, lyrical and guitar riffs, and are funny to boot. What a great band! That's what its all about. Good music that rocks.

Side topic: Can you be called a "band" if you have only two members? I would be inclined to say "duo" or something along those lines. Are The White Stripes a band? I'd like some opinions.

Tenacious D the band and Tenacious D the HBO series are a little different. For one, the band is actually a band, as in it has a drummer and everything (Dave Grohl plays on the album, but I forget who they take on tour if it's even anyone important). Aside from that, yes, it's entirely possible to have a band with two people. Anything plural, really. Only a solo artist without backing members is barred from calling himself a band.

Let me go ahead and say that I liked Tenacious D's HBO shorts and the album was a continuation of that same humor. The movie, however, stank terribly for a number of reasons, primarily because rather than being likable goofs with unrealistic dreams of stardom and dogged persistence, they're unlikable d*ckholes meandering around a crappy plot. But at least there's Paul F. Tompkins hanging out in the background.

All that aside, they are not even remotely HoF material.

I agree William...could've done without the movie!!! HoF??? Not if they became the only band making music (shudder at that thought...lol)

Jack Black is a blight and a pox upon creation itself.

Yeah The movie was cool and thats really all there credited for but I have a dream that mabye Tenatious D will make it and Kickapoo will become the next Stairway to Heaven.

Kickapoo will not be the next Stairway to heaven. But,they will make it.

Posted by David on Monday, 10.6.08 @ 17:56pm

Yes it will and Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny will become the Next Family Jewels.

Tenatious D and the Pick of Destiny features Ronnie James Dio, Meatloaf, and Jack Black. This is obviously how this movie is good.

73% to 23% is a little bit over the top.

I like Tenacious D but not like Metallica.
You guys also put in Spinal Tap. Neither Spinal Tap nor Tenacious D care about the rock and roll hall of fame.

Tenacious D is a great band, but they don't really deserve Hall of Fame. Maybe if there was a comical isle, or something. They are really good musicians, though. Its just the lyrics that through people off.

Posted by ColemanAlbright on Friday, 10.9.09 @ 19:31pm

The D is not like any other band, they do not have a bunch of dramam between their members, and they don't piss off their fans. They just go out their and play to have fun. I think the lack of seriousness turns people off. But other than being funny, they are musically talented. If they get in, it should be for comedy because you can't really put them in for having 1 album and a soundtrack from a movie. I honestly think it would be stupid to put them in for their musical talent if they don't come out with new material. However, if they don't make it i don't think it's exactly a "snubb" of any sort

does it really matter if they do get in i mean they do make good music and they are doing it for fun and even if they do how will it effect anything sure they make vulgar music i think its funny and its not going to be decided for a lon time

If you say Tenacious D doesn't belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, then I fear that you may have forgotten what it means to rock...Rock and Roll began as a creative defiance to the norm; being different in the face of everyone else. Most modern rockers have been trying to deviate from the norm with the same cookie cutter mold. It is the very fact that Tenacious D is truly different from other performers while being truly talented that makes me think they deserve it. Also, possibly more importantly, they play Rock and Roll and they are famous. They are famous enough that we are debating them, famous enough to play main characters in famous movies, and famous enough that everyone knows who they are. If they are that famous, then why would they be left out of the Hall of Fame??? I agree completely with everyone that points to their talent, but shouldn't their fame and their holding to the original ideals of rock be the deciding factors?

Also, I would point out that Elvis made highly controversial music with what was seen at the time as disgraceful and distasteful pelvic thrusts for dance moves. He was seen by most of the experts as vulgar and pointless. Jack Black is no Elvis, but he is getting called many of the same names by you guys. Real rockers do it for fun and no real rocker would need recognition or approval. That's what rock used to be all about. How much has changed if you say that Tenacious D does not deserve the HoF for these very reasons? If you think their music sucks, then so be it, but let that be the reason. Not because you think their brand of rock is vulgar and abnormal, or because you think they are not serious enough. Don't get me wrong. I am not some D freak. I like the music, among many others, but I mostly don't want the real Rock and Roll to lose the old meaning.

The vocalization on the D's most recent album, Rize of the Fenix is absolutely amazing. All of their music is very well put together, and coming from another musician, Kyle Gass is an amazing acoustic guitarist. Tenacious D deserves a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
