As much as I do like the boys, Tears for Fears should not qualify. They were derivative of other sounds, and they did nothing spectactular with what they inherited.

I still love the band, but they don't deserve this honor.

They had a ton of great singles, but just none of them essential.

What are you talking about???, TFF is a rock band, in fact you can describe it as a progresive rock band, just listen to break it down again or all of the angel or even the "new" album.
TFF are pure rock, with no need of huge guitars solos, or terrible scream, they don't need that, as depeche mode, both are ROCK.

Come on! "Shout", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Mad World" with its 100 different covers not essential! I think so. These guys were and still are the best at what they do. Of all the artists listed to the left they are the only ones outside of maybe the Beasties that should be on the list next year.

I believe they deserve it. Their first album "The Hurting" was a masterpiece. Followed by "Songs from the Big Chair" which took at bit of all kinds of rock. From "Shout", "Everybody wants to rule the World" to "Head of Heels", they really hit big with this album on all levels. Not to mention "Sowing the Seeds of Love" which showed how great these two musicians were. They never gave a simple rehash of their old stuff they went above and beyond with each album. Just my opinion though, I love TFF and don't think people give them the credit they deserve.

Just noticed I didn't put "Head Over Heels" I accidentally put "of" for some reason. Must be sleepy. So just correcting myself. Goodnight.

There are way too many other new wave bands still on the outs for Tears For Fears to get consideration. Get in line, boys.

The Hurting is one of the best albums of all time TFF followed up with Songs from the big chair which is a timeless classic.
If the decision was based on everything after that I would agree that TFF is not deserving of this induction, however based on the strength of the first two albums I think they are more than worthy of this Honor.
P.S. Happy ending was a sound album as well.

I truly feel Tears For Fears sucks, and hope they never make it.

tears for fears has risen above many bands over and over,,, Roland and Curt's ability to harmonize and their ability to mesmerize you with their words, tunes and videos amazes me!! Plus their both pretty sexy!!! They deserve any and all recognition they can have!

To elena: Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears ARE NOT rock bands, they are both pop bands, Depeche Mode is the better band.

I love pop music but, Tears For Fears suck. I love Depeche Mode, they are the greatest band on earth!!!

Posted by DepecheModeRules on Tuesday, 01.19.10 @ 01:02am

DEPECHE MODE RULES!!!!

Posted by DepecheModeRules on Tuesday, 01.19.10 @ 01:11am

Don't listen to Tears For Fears. If you want to hear some real pop music, listen to the greatest band ever, Depeche Mode!

elena:
Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears are pop bands, NOT rock bands, you are so stupid! Pop music rules! Tears For Fears sucks, Depeche Mode IS a better band elena, GET OVER IT!

Okay guys,

The correct terminology for what Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears did in the begining was electronica or synth-rock.
I think that Tears For Fears obviously deserves to be in the R&RHOF because they certainly have been around in the business long enough.

Caleste

Sorry but Depeche Mode has been in the music business far more longer than gay Tears For Fears! They r both pop bands sorry! Depeche Mode r better and always will be and Depeche Mode sold 100,000000 worldwide TFF only sold 22,000000 worldwide!! HA HA HA TFF is gay!!

Tears For Fears Has written some of the best lyrics about life out there. Sit down and listen to "The Hurting." Amazing Albulm and ahead of its time.

I cant even begin to imagine how Tears For Fears could make it in, two good songs just doesnt cut it...

And yes i agree, Depeche Mode rules!

Posted by Paul on Monday, 01.3.11 @ 13:24pm

DepechModeRules,

2 things pal!

1. If you're going to be rude and insulting with me at least spell my name right.

2. I only think that Tears For Fears should be considered for next year's inductees because they're eligible and have been eligible since 06. Are Depeche Mode eligible? I don't know?

Posted by Celeste on Wednesday, 10.5.11 @ 14:52pm

And Tears For Fears were around about the same time as Depeche Mode. So get over it.

Posted by Celeste on Thursday, 12.15.11 @ 23:34pm

Paul what on earth are you smoking?

Tears For Fears had more than 20 top 10 singles. I think you need to start doing more research before you go making comments like that.

ROCK & ROLL JEOPARDY
Category: If They Collaborated

If TFF were to do a song with the Guess Who, it would be called...

What is "American Woman in Chains?"

Solid second wave New Wave duo that produced one of the best album of the 1980s (Songs from the Big Chair), but their overall career doesn't merit a ticket to the HOF. Still, fans like myself will keep enjoying the great work that Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith made

Tears For Fears made some great music. Songs From The Big Chair was a Classic. My FAV Everybody Wants To Rule The World,Shout,Head Over Heels. Just amazing songs.

I think they will fall short of induction. Just so many talented bands up for possible induction:The Cure,Duran Duran,Scorpions,Def Leppard,Bon Jovi,Iron Maiden, etc.

Enjoyed Tears For Fears songs. KING

TFF is an interesting case. Not given the credit they deserve. Some of the best music of the 80's in some respects. 'Songs From The Big Chair' is just brilliant from start to finish, ambitious and inventive. That being said, they never matched it and did not fulfill their promise. So I agree, they fall short of HOF. They had the potential though.

Fav Tears For Fears song Everybody Wants To Rule The World. They would definitely considered good or great in the 80's but the RRHOF would be a tougher sell. Probably needed 2 more powerhouse albums to make the HOF. Songs like Pale Shelter and Sowing The Seeds Of Love are also worth checking out. Loved the ending solo Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Saw TFF (opening for Hall & Oates) last week, and it was definitely a thrill for me. The two men looked and sounded great. Oddly, the biggest cheers they got were when they covered Radiohead's "Creep". Another odd thing was the show opened (as the band entered the stage) with Lorde's cover of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" before they did their own. Great show, as well as Hall & Oates' set.
