I'd definitely have him in as a sideman. Not too sure about whether his own discography deserves in...

He was good. Not great but good.

He should get in as a member of whitesnake, but not for his solo career.

Nobody with control of their faculties would even wonder if Steve should be in. Alcatraz, Whitesnake, David Lee Roth, Bad4Good, Zappa... 9 out of 10 guitarists wouldn't hesitate to tell you he's the best. Cause he IS!

No David Gilmour is.

That's pretty funny...I've played guitar for over 40 years and I couldn't even BEGIN to tell you who the absolute best player is. To me, it's better that way...

I would love to see him in. I wonder if he'll be in before Satriani or Malmsteen.

Steve Vai has and will continue to make dents in rock and musical history being that he is a virtuoso guitar player with arguably un-matched skill and knowledge in and of the instrument and rock music as a whole. He has revolutionized guitar playing and has raised the bar in playing since the mid 80's. He was the first to put a cavity in the floyd rose system for pitch raises, bring 7 string guitars into mass producton and was one of the biggest contributers in making instrumental rock popular again with his albums and work. He is also running a non profit charity organization called make a noise to help out children and adolescents who dont have enough money to pursue a hobby or as least get started in learning music.
his contributions to rock music are always overlooked and its sad to see that regular pop musicians overshadow him in todays media when someone with so much talent, heart, and musical understanding works so hard at what they do and gives back so much to those who need it. Its just really disappionting to see.
