What a great band. The original lineup was amazing with Gregg Rolie on vocals/keyboards. Carlos Santana is one of the universally great guitarists. Their set at Woodstock was amazing when they played "Soul Sacrifice."

Metalsmith...Neil Schon (Journey) also was a member of Santana. He joined on for "Santana III" when he was 15 years old. Also, Carlos' brother Jorge led a band around that time called Malo...had a big hit called "Suavecito. Check out the group and song...

I also read in an interview with Eric Clapton that when Duane Allman left Derek & the Dominos, Clapton asked Carlos Santana if he could recommend a replacement and Santana suggested Neal Schon, who briefly joined the Dominos before they split up. He was around 16 at that time.

Question: I know that Peter Green was associated with Santana, but was he ever a member of the band? And if so, would that make him the only person to be inducted twice in one year (with Santana and Fleetwood Mac)?

Thanks for any light you might shed on this.

Joe,

Peter Green was not a member of Santana. Green recorded "Black Magic Woman" with Fleetwood Mac in 1969, a year before Santana did it. The only person to be inducted twice in one year was Stephen Stills, as a member of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash, who were inducted in 1997, a year before Fleetwood Mac and Santana were inducted.

Okay, Mr. O'Donnell, thank you. I know that Peter Green played with Santana at the induction ceremony in 1998 (he said that he would much rather play with Santana than Fleetwood Mac). I also appreciate the insight on Stephen Stills.
