I seriously think that he can be taken seriously.
He is one of the only "R&B" artist from his generation that i support.I believe I can fly is in the rolling stone's list of the 500s best songs ever.

R.Kelly deserves to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame more than ANY other artist of his time. Nevermind the legal problems he's facing because they do not influence his musical ability. Don't let your personal feelings for him distract you from the talent this man possesses. His longevity is unheard of for artists of today. Most artists of today are one-hit, or one album wonders. He's going on 17 years in the game with no plans on stopping. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the voters would be making a TREMENDOUS mistake if they do not feel R.Kelly is qualified for this honor.

If he doesn't deserve it, no one does...

Personally, I rather detest him. On the grounds of his music, that is, not his penchant for water sports. Way too schmaltzy for my taste. I don't like "I Believe I Can Fly" either, but that is no reason to cause him physical harm like someone else suggested here. His longevity and continuous success certainly make a strong point for his induction. Talent? I'm sure he must have some. Will he be inducted? Why not, if they also induct Gary Glitter and Cat Stevens...

R. Kelly deserves to be inducted!

If he had a better control of his personal life, I'd consider him to have a pretty good chance. From 1994-2003ish he was pretty much untouchable commercially and had a few critically acclaimed songs Problem is, alot of his material is VERY cheesy. And too much cheese can kill an artist's chances, regardless of whether or not they're worthy.

So Bad Public Image + Cheesy Music = Most likely not.

I guess I'll clairify my position on R. Kelly, in case anybody cares:

I think a good case could be made for his inclusion. He was the biggest R&B star of the 90s (chartwise, even managing to surpass the late Whitney Houston, who was at the peak of her popularity) He, along with TLC, also played a huge role in the assimilation of R&B and Rap with many of their songs (although it was different from the New Jack Swing style). He was also a massive star from 1994-2003ish, and produced a few critically acclaimed songs. He was a popular producer, prodcuing songs by Aliayah and Michael Jackson.

Out of any R&B singer of the past 25 years, he is most likely the strongest candidate. (Unless Usher gets on his level some time soon) If I had to make a decision, I'd probably let him in.

I dunno, that trial he had would definetly harm his chances.

Well, peeing on girls certainly won't help his case, but time heals alot of wounds and considering the hall's love for R&B, it wouldn't surprise me to see him or TLC pop up on a few ballots once they're eligible.

Not gonna lie, the public image and a few cheesy songs won't help him but he does have talent.

He WILL be inducted easily. Nobody looks at his personal life when it comes to inductees. I can easily name 5 artists off the top of my head who have been inducted but had sketchy pasts so let's not put R. Kelly down.

R. Kelly is a very talented singer, songwriter, producer and composer. What make can you ask for? He's the #1 artist in R&B for over 20 years!
