Remember that Poison is still touring in front of huge crowds and has three huge albums and another one with moderate success.

Posted by Derrick on Wednesday, 03.21.07 @ 15:21pm

you may hate them, but they made impact. they still turn out great music today. give a listen to power to the people, or hollyweird, & you can see they still got it. so many bands copied them that it killed the era. it might take 10 to 20 years to see the impact clearly, but they will make it.

Music should be fun.. Poison always made fun music.. People who diss Poison clearly don't know how to have fun, don't have a sense of humour and can't take a joke..
because life is too short to be taken so seriously.. and to be be honest.. I don't want to be around boring lifeless people anyway. Do us a favour and Go and listen to your emo and slash yourself. And for the hard metal fans who diss poison.. shame on you.. if it wasn't for glam rock/soft rock etc you'd probably never have gotten laid in the 80's and 90's. lol!!

"Music should be fun.."-AngelinDisguise

Not really. And if listening to Poison is your idea of a fun time, then you lead a very boring life.

Posted by William on Thursday, 05.31.07 @ 09:07am

Yes and No. Yes-They were a band that made people in office cubicles want to play air guitar and sing. No-It's just a copy of the Sunset Strip bands of the 80's. I'm in between.

I'm glad to see it's not all negative comments about Poison. Everybody gets on this band's case. But you know what? They can take it! Because they have hit albums, hit songs and they still play massive arenas on the strength of the great music they made early in their career. Like AngelinDisguise said, they're fun and that's why's it Rock & Roll. If you're not having fun, then you're doing something wrong and you need to turn the dial to a station that's playing Poison. Then you'll realise that life is actually worth living and that depressing music is worthless.

Posted by Metalsmith on Tuesday, 01.15.08 @ 17:05pm

"and that depressing music is worthless."

Anyone who says that Joy Division is worthless can expect to get hammered by me. Severely.

And besides, I can have "fun" and listen to (even DANCE to) a Cure record, even though The Cure are probably only second to J.D. as far as depressing-post-punk groups are concerned.

If the 80's Hard Rock/Hair Metal scene is as throw away as many people think, I have a question.

Tonight, a TV game show called "Don't Forget The Lyrics" featured Brett Michaels playing for charity. The other night, Def Leppard performed on the very popular TV show called "Dancing With Stars". As much as I find this all a bit too cheesey, why do you think that television is opening its arms to these performers? I guess one reason is that they believe these performers are good for ratings. But I wonder why throw away artists whom many feel no one will remember have such a mass audience appeal. Especially artists who's hey day was over 20 years ago. Any thoughts.

Posted by Dameon on Thursday, 05.1.08 @ 19:21pm

Dameon, maybe it's like those shows Love Boat and Fantasy Island. They would always have people like Sonny Bono and Florence Henderson as guests, people who were, shall we say, past their prime??

Posted by joker on Thursday, 05.1.08 @ 19:55pm

This is too funny. Ricki Rockett of Poison has challenged Joe Elliot of Def Leppard to a fight. I just read it on Eddie Trunk's website. That is just what reality TV needs; two knucklehead 40 something long hairs going at it on WWE Monday Night Raw.

Posted by Dameon on Monday, 08.4.08 @ 13:14pm

Dameon...Maybe they can stick their heads up each other's can and fight for air! Now THAT would be entertainment!!!

Isn't poison the band that has Dizzy Reed on guitar.

Posted by Jason on Friday, 11.28.08 @ 05:38am

No Jason, Dizzy Reed is not a guitarist he's plays the keeboard and he was never on Poison he's on Guns N' Roses.

Posted by Mike on Friday, 11.28.08 @ 05:40am

hehe, my 3rd fav band... you gotta love them... in my opinion better then gNr anyday

Posted by brendon on Friday, 12.5.08 @ 08:58am

No, not at all.

Posted by Mike on Wednesday, 12.10.08 @ 06:58am

Not a chance. I can see the merit in the arguments people make for the likes of KISS, but Poison is kinda pushing it.

Posted by John on Tuesday, 01.27.09 @ 20:03pm

Bret Michaels is making way more money with VH1 then he did with Poison.

Posted by Mike on Wednesday, 02.4.09 @ 14:43pm

i can't stand Brett Michaels. His band was pretty cool, but c'mon, Poison was just another 80s hair band. Def Leppard has a better chance of getting in, and I'm a little disappointed they haven't.

Posted by Justin on Friday, 06.26.09 @ 13:28pm

Don't put Def Leppard in with the hair metal crowd. They were part of the NWoBHM.

Posted by Dude Man on Friday, 06.26.09 @ 13:31pm

Poison rocks! They must get in!

Go Poison!!!

Posted by Classic Rocker on Saturday, 12.26.09 @ 01:11am

"People who diss Poison clearly don't know how to have fun, don't have a sense of humour and can't take a joke.." First of all, it should be "..." Second, I think I'm perfectly humorous, I laugh off the people I hang out with messing with me... okay, now I'm rambling. That whole statement was a ridiculous stereotype, and music does different things for different people.

"And for the hard metal fans who diss poison.. shame on you.. if it wasn't for glam rock/soft rock etc you'd probably never have gotten laid in the 80's and 90's. lol!!" I was born in '89, so that doesn't apply to me. I have a friend who was born in '87, doesn't listen to Poison and still bagged several girls in the Dominican Republic. Gotcha.

"If you're not having fun, then you're doing something wrong and you need to turn the dial to a station that's playing Poison. Then you'll realise that life is actually worth living and that depressing music is worthless." Actually I turn the dial to fun artists who are better than Poison. If someone named "Metalsmith" is calling Slayer, Megadeth, Dio and Black Sabbath "worthless" because they're not fun then I order you to change your name. Immediately. I listen to "depressing" music yet I'm perfectly happy. Oh, and "Metalsmith": You do realize Poison isn't metal, don't you? No, I have nothing against Poison, but they should not be inducted. Even if we can get Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, T.Rex, Alice Cooper, Hawkwind, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Arthur Brown, The Runaways, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Rainbow, Ozzy, Motley Crue, Slade, Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Def Leppard, New York Dolls, Ratt, Joan Jett, KISS, Quiet Riot and Soundgarden all in then you still have a weak case for Poison's induction, due to a lack of innovation, little lasting influence, and a lack of impact (the hair bands and pop metal would've done just fine without them.) Dameon: Did I leave any hard rock, metal or glam artists out there?

Posted by Sam on Sunday, 02.14.10 @ 20:04pm

I'm a poison fan but I don't think that they should be in the hall of fame because they are just like the other 80's band like Motley Crue, Judas Priest, GNR, and Def Leppard. Not influential at all.

Posted by Edgar on Friday, 03.5.10 @ 00:04am

You're half-right Edgar. Poison and GNR=not groundbreaking or influential, and should stay out (though GNR were great.) Def Lep and Crue are borderline, but lots of bands followed Def Lep's style (HOOKS, harmonies, clean production) and the Crue pretty much started the whole Sunset Strip scene, so both should find a way in after their predecessors (Alice Cooper, KISS, NY Dolls for Motley, T. Rex, Slade, Mott the Hoople and Deep Purple for Def Lep.) Priest, however, were groundbreaking and very influential, and should've been in years ago.

Posted by Sam on Saturday, 03.6.10 @ 14:17pm

Rikki, Bret, CC, and Bobby...Have provided "Nothing but a good time" and "Something to believe in" for more than 20 years to over 25 million "Fallen Angels"! Can't wait for thier induction!

Posted by rikkisrockstarhav on Friday, 04.9.10 @ 17:59pm

Don't count on it. New York Dolls and Def Leppard are critical favorites, and they've been ignoring them. Even if one of them gets in and the Crue gets in, Poison will still have a tough road ahead of them. It may happen, but it'll be tough to make it happen.

Posted by Sam on Monday, 04.12.10 @ 17:18pm

They have made some great tunes Fallen Angel and Poor Boy Blues spring to mind. Sadly I don't think that they will get in.
Btw get well soon Bret xx

Posted by Anna-Lee on Thursday, 07.15.10 @ 07:46am

Poison's music is pretty terrible but they will get in due to their huge fan base and their ability to gain commercial success. Remember these guys were the greatest band in the world at one point.

Posted by Dan on Sunday, 08.1.10 @ 15:42pm

How can they be pretty terrible but have been the greatest band in the world at one point? That doesn't make any sense. I assume you meant to say the biggest in the world at one point, which they were nowhere near, never. I don't think they will get in. Def Leppard... Motley Crue... KISS... New York Dolls... Alice Cooper... How are they supposed to get in if that lot can't?

Posted by Sam on Monday, 08.2.10 @ 21:38pm

Poison should get in the Hall one day, they deserve it, just becuase you may not be a fan of the 80's Rock era shouldn't exclude the 80's bands. Poison was one of the best to ever come out of the scene. Poison, GNR, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi & Def Leppard!!! Biggest bands of the era.

Posted by PARockFan on Sunday, 08.15.10 @ 13:15pm

I'd only induct the Crue and Def Lep out of that lot, though I have nothing against any of that lot (except that Bon Jovi were fakes in the 80's.) I disagree about Poison deserving it, but they'll most likely never even be considered, so it's irrelevant (I'll be shocked if they even get nominated.)

Posted by Sam on Wednesday, 08.18.10 @ 20:15pm

POISON IS A GRET BAND AND SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME. THERE IS ALOT OF MUSICIAN THAT SHOULDN'T BE IN THE HALL OF FAME RIGHT NOW. THERE IS ONE GROUP THAT JUST CELEBRATED THERE 50 YEAR'S OF IN THE BUSINESS AND THEY ARE NOT IN. THE JACKSON 5 ARE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME BUT THE OSMOND'S ARE NOT IN YET AND THAT TO ME BECAUSE OF COLOR THEY HAD NUMBER 1# HIT'S AND THEY ARE NOT IN

Posted by CAROLYN on Monday, 10.11.10 @ 18:41pm

Influence: In terms of influence they were always dwarfed by Motley Cure, Def Leppard and other bigger glam rock bands.
Innovation: None, Motley Cure and Def Leppard did it all before them.
Commercial: 25-30 million records sold worldwide. Pretty good.
Critical opinion: Let's just say I doubt you will be seeing Poison on many greatest bands of all time lists.

Posted by GFW on Sunday, 07.10.11 @ 13:11pm

adding ranks to my thing up there:
Influence: 10
Innovation: 0
Commercial: 20
Critical: 0

that's 30, lower than the spice girls!

Nirvana sucks. Soundgarden on the other hand is outstanding.
Ehy, but Poson sucks too.

Posted by GFW on Sunday, 12.11.11 @ 15:19pm

Smells like teen spirit is one of the worst songs I have ever heard... PS: are you also sure that didn't you mean rape me, aren't they the same shitty song?

Outshined > Every nirvana song

Posted by Megadeth on Sunday, 12.11.11 @ 15:35pm

"Smells Like Teen SPirit is one of the worst songs ever"

nigga what.

it may not be as RS said "among the top 10 best songs ever" but it most certainly isn't shitty.

and no, rape me is nowhere near the same as teen spirit. outshined is just a lumbering bore of a song, if you were to use a soundgarden song as ana rgument use black hole sun or rusty cage.

Posted by GFW on Sunday, 12.11.11 @ 15:36pm

They have a classic ballad-Every Rose. And they had a good rocker called Cry Tough off their debut. Other than that, along with Warrant, they represent everything bad with the 80s. Pure bubblegum, meaningless lyrics and songs with no edge or attitude.

Posted by Eddie Dobzanski on Wednesday, 12.21.11 @ 00:19am

Big musical change at end of 80s. General consenses was no more spandex and hair spray. Fans embraced more serious bands out of Seattle even if the 90s brought less talented singers and guitarists. Everything that people critizise the 80s for, the excess, the bubblegum pop, etc. you can look to bands like Poisen. They were a pop group calling themselves a rock band. One great ballad, other then that forgettable crap. Can anyone name 1 Poisen song with edge. Great bands like Motley, Ratt, Great White get lumped in.

Posted by Warrior on Monday, 08.13.12 @ 01:27am

Poison belongs in the Hall of Fame, plain and simple..

Posted by Greg on Monday, 06.3.13 @ 23:15pm

Greg, while I agree with you that Poison should be in the Hall as they're a great band, we need to be aware that this website has no say in who gets in and who dosen't. It's still down to these rich musical snobs who gets in.

Poison won't make the RRHOF but they were better than given credit for. Every Rose Has It's Thorn one of the best power ballads of its day. Always enjoyed Brett Michaels singing voice. Poison realized rock n roll should be fun & their songs were catchy.

I'm glad that Poison were popular. Brett Michaels diabetes for a musician that young shed light on diabetes & awareness.Something most people don't realize. Never heard of anybody having diabetes before Brett.

Brett Michaels is always in the public eye. That might help Poison more than most groups who disappear after several years.

My FAV Poison songs were Something To Believe In,Look What The Cat Dragged In,Every Rose Has Its Thorn. KING

Posted by KING on Thursday, 02.20.14 @ 14:28pm

John Lennon, their lead singer, is already in the hall of fame.

Posted by Tommy on Sunday, 01.18.15 @ 17:04pm

Poison should be revisited for being inducted into the Rock& Roll Hall of Fame. They are one of the few acts that still tours. And front man Bret Michaels continues to tour as a solo act and with Poison and doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Bret Michaels always makes it know that he is a Type 1 Diabetic since the age of 6 and continues to support various charities. Also promoting awareness to the world.

For mostly Bret & Poison, he continues to stay in the public eye. And always continues to Rock it hard & heavy!

Posted by Carly on Saturday, 01.24.15 @ 11:20am

I would love to see them inducted! Unfortunately the HOF is biased against 80s bands. Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Poison... and yet Madonna, Run-DMC, and Public Enemy are in even when they're obviously not even rock? And why aren't Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Foreigner, Deep Purple, Boston, The Cars, Cheap Trick, and George Thorogood and The Destroyers in yet?
