Kind of sad that they'll never make it. IMO, they should be in if for no other reason than to acknowledge the simple fact that they were one of the first decidedly Christian rock bands, and the fact of the matter that Christian rock IS a significant portion of the music scene today. Love or hate Christian rock, you can't deny that fact, and even a token member in acknowledgment of that fact would be a good idea.

Philip, I think you nailed it. They do deserve induction--for no other reason than they were probably THE first Christian rock band to have anything resembling a mainstream audience, not to mention how many other Christian bands they influenced--but they probably will not make it, simply because Christian rock is so little a slice of the mainstream rock and roll that the Hall reflects.

Petra is the greatest Christian Rock Band (The Newsboys are close with "The Breakfast Song" and their music). I have seen Petra five times in concert and unfortunely won't again since they are no more. Petra is a gift of wonderful music. If the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame is never realizes Petra's influence on rock music, it will be a complete shame. I believe even the rocks will cry out for this injustice. It is so sad that all the music of the Christian Rock will never be honored in the way the music deserves. There is nothing like Petra in the morning to get you going to face the day.

I think Petra's chances are better than we think--if someone at the RRHOF realizes how much they influenced (really INVENTED) a category of music that is growing in popularity. I'm glad that the other two that have entries above this one also seem to agree on their influence, if not their chances.
