They are a great band. And since their lead singer is 19 as of this writing, will probably still be recording

Youre trying to tell me PATD deserves to be in the company of Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Zepplin, VH,..etc. They shouldnt even bear the 4 letter acronym. That one is reserved for future hall of famers RATM!

if they get inducted i will commit suicide and post it on youtube.

Well I guess I'm f^^ked up then because Panic! at the Disco is my favorite band of all time. Their music is definitely different. Their lyrics are very clever and their melodies are great. Their uniqueness really shows on tracks like Time to Dance and they sound very... almost cabaret/musical style on songs like There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey You
Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet. Plus, they are quickly on their way to surpassing Fall Out Boy as the hottest rock band in the country. They even got a Rolling Stone cover [it's on my wall] before Fall Out Boy did. And doing what they've done at their age and so quickly is something deserving of respect.

Who the HELL do you guys think you are? Panic! at the Disco is an original, great band! they march to the beat of they're own drum! they're lyrics and music styles have gotten them this far! obviously they have talent. if you dont have anything nice to say, mind your own damn buisness and dont say anything at all. Eventhough i think that fall out boy is the best band in the whole wide freekin world, panic! at the disco deserves this just as much as any other band on this list. Oh, and so what if they're gonna be placed with black sabbath and aerosmith and stuff, c'mon people, stop living in the past and live in the future!!!! nuff said. P!ATD ROX BITCHES!!!!!

Posted by holly on Thursday, 03.15.07 @ 14:50pm

you've gotta be kidding me. panic! is one of the worst bands i have ever encountered. i have never seen kids that go bananas for such awful music. they are by no means musical geniuses. you're full of it if you believe they are. lyrics like "i've got a hotter touch a better f^ck". that is not great music; it's not even good. if you want to listen to something with meaning try pink floyd or the beatles or even something more current. but panic! is complete crap. they're a manufactured band that has no appeal to anyone that isn't in the teenage category. and describing bands as "awesome" or "amazing" because you think they are lyke omg so hott! is retarded. grow up and learn to appreciate people for their music not cuz you have the hots for the singer and actually learn what good meaningful music is because panic! at the disco are an awful band that makes music that would even make the deaf's ears bleed.

Posted by Amanda on Thursday, 03.15.07 @ 15:27pm

No Unless their next album is AMAZING people will stop caring and they will be forgotten.

Posted by Anna on Thursday, 03.15.07 @ 16:58pm

They deserve it. They're pretty much amazing. They brought new things to music. I just dont think some people are open minded enough to appreciate it.

they dont suck there just new and i think they are very talented for such a young band!!! well i know metallica,.. deserves it more but dont hate these guys !!!

i hate when people call them sellouts.their just a really good band.ive liked them since summer of 2005 and theyve only gotten better.

Posted by jenny on Friday, 03.16.07 @ 13:19pm

I like Panic!, seen them in concert several times and am a big fan, but I don't think they'll be inducted. All depends on how their new album is, it's too soon to tell after only one album. But they're taking their success to their heads much to quickly and have been acting pretty self-centered lately.

Posted by Matt on Friday, 03.16.07 @ 15:41pm

im not really a big panic fan but i have my doubts they'll be added. even then its WAY to soon to tell.

Posted by rancidrocker13 on Friday, 03.16.07 @ 15:48pm

how do they influence rock and roll? They suck, they are pretty much a boy band with guitars.

Posted by dude on Saturday, 03.24.07 @ 22:32pm

Buy a damn Sunny Day Real Estate album, kids.

Posted by James on Sunday, 03.25.07 @ 00:21am

They haven't done a diddly yet to the music industry other than appeal to the 14-year old girlies. They haven't done anything to influence the music industry at all. If anything, their music has lead to a lot of crticizers.

Fortunately, there is still time. They can get their heads straightened up and find out what their real talents are. A second album will be out soon, but if it's a copycat, then they'll be a thing of the past.

MCR on the other hand...I bet you they'll be still out there while others like FOB and P!ATD will become lost souls.

Posted by maplejet on Thursday, 04.5.07 @ 14:04pm

Too soon to tell. But they better change up their style so, they're not just "that band that sounds like Fall Out Boy, but with circus stuff". Eh, they're mediocre. Like Fall Out Boy. My Chemical Romance all the way...

Posted by fangirlhater on Monday, 04.9.07 @ 09:37am

WOW. Panic at the disco is just all of the other bands out there on mtv. they all SUCK. just a bunch of ass-clowns with a girl's voice singing about pointless crap that is taken in by our materialistic society. it makes me sick. One-Hit wonder bands.

Posted by BurningMonk on Monday, 04.9.07 @ 12:00pm

Codyx is right. PATD was first realized when somebody thought "Hey, let's make a knock-off of Fall Out Boy, only we'll make them even more gay". All I can say is kudos to them for thinking up something gayer than FOB. That must have been tough to pull off.

So far, all defending PATD are young girls not giving a good enough reason why the band deserves this accolade.

Posted by maplejet on Thursday, 05.17.07 @ 12:50pm

Look, i'm sorry for my post above...i didn't mean that. This band does not EVER deserve to be in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. Fall Out Boy? maybe (even though they are awful they still sold more than PATD, and that's all that matters now, huh?) Really if this band gets in, anyone can get in. I predict them becoming one (or maybe two) hit wonders and playing convention centers and bat mitzahs in i'd say seven years? yeah.

Posted by Ryan Gibbs on Saturday, 05.19.07 @ 14:08pm

"So far, all defending PATD are young girls not giving a good enough reason why the band deserves this accolade."

So true, when are you kids going to stop eating whatever is spoon fed to you and go out and find some real music.

Leave the cookie cutter mall rock bands alone and find something worth listening to.

Can you whistle while banging a spoon on a trash can lid? If so then you have more talent then PATD.

Posted by david on Monday, 05.21.07 @ 01:47am

For the individual that says that we should listen to The Beatles rather than P!ATD, at least P!ATD didn't steal their beats from people in India (which The Beatles did). Oh yeah, another example is that Elvis took credit for a song that a black man created, such a joke! I'll give credit to P!ATD for originality, so SHUT UP. We all have our own taste in music, if u don't like it oh well. WHO CARES ABOUT U! P!ATD ARE TALENTED IN THEIR OWN WAY! ENOUGH SAID!

Posted by Helena Guan on Wednesday, 05.30.07 @ 00:29am

"Oh yeah, another example is that Elvis took credit for a song that a black man created, such a joke!"-Helena Guan

A song? Just one? Led Zeppelin took like ten.

Of course while that argument might work against the innovation factor, like it or not, it doesn't rule out the influence part. Check back in ten years, but as of right now, I don't see any indication that Panic will make any serious innovations or influences.

"at least P!ATD didn't steal their beats from people in India (which The Beatles did)."

Um, using eastern beats in a western musical context is not stealing. It's actually innovating. Beats are not trademarked by specific cultures, and can be used by anyone.

As for the Elvis thing, he didn't steal it since it was a credited cover. He didn't say he wrote it, he just performed it in his style. You may not think much of Elvis as a performer (and really, I don't.) but it's hard to deny his stamp on popular culture. You might as well try to deny the existence of water.

i guess people who hate/dislike patd are going to call me just another brainless fangirl. well just to let you all know, i liked them after i heard i write sins not tragedies on the radio. there's nothing wrong with them because dont all bands/singers have their own hit song that made them gain fans? i heard their music and lyrics waaaaayyyy before i even knew how they look like so im not just the fangirl who likes them cos she finds them cute or whatever. and i was very impressed when i found out that they were so young. i mean, u have to give credit to these guys for making it at this age! it's not easy. and, i find them veryvery different from other bands.

Posted by katie on Wednesday, 06.20.07 @ 08:59am

it's brilliant how theyre abble to narrate simple stories in a pretty implicit manner and the concept of their first album is really creative! plus the kinds of instruments they use in their songs. i think theyre bringing another whole new different meaning into this music scene.

"dont all bands/singers have their own hit song that made them gain fans?"-katie

No.

"i find them veryvery different from other bands."-katie

That's because you're relatively ignorant of other bands.

"plus the kinds of instruments they use in their songs"-katie

Oh, bull. Neutral Milk Hotel uses more unconventional instruments in a single song than those guys ever have. What "new meaning" are they bringing anyway?

Posted by William on Wednesday, 06.20.07 @ 09:19am

Panic! At The Disco is a majorly awesome band! They have lyrics that actually have a meaning, unlike some bands. I like them because they aren't like every other band. They don't sound like any other band out there. They also have a completely different style. When they perform, it reminds me of a vaudville circus almost because of all the many dancers and performers that are on stage acting out the lyrics the songs. You can't bad mouth Panic! At The Disco until you have gone to one of their concerts because when you have seen their live performance, you have a completely different outlook on their style of music.

Posted by Katrina on Friday, 06.22.07 @ 11:54am

"They have lyrics that actually have a meaning, unlike some bands."-Katrina

Worst argument I am continually forced to hear. Unlike some? That could be applied to almost anything. "They sing, unlike some bands. They use bass, unlike some bands." And of top of that, their lyrics wouldn't pass a middle school poetry assignment.

"I like them because they aren't like every other band. They don't sound like any other band out there."-Katrina

Except for the bands they rip off, right?

"They have lyrics that actually have a meaning, unlike some bands."

This is one of the best examples of why we live in the Musical Dark Ages. Some vague (and from what I can tell, incredibly homosexual) idea of "meaning" is what validates a song's quality. Can't you emo bitches go back to slitting your wrsist in private and leave the airwaves alone?

To the person who said Panic!'s lyrics don't mean anything, I'm assuming you've never heard 'Camisado' or 'Nails for breaskfast, tacks for snacks'

Both songs are about Ryan Ross and his alcoholic father. One is about the abuse he encoutered while his dad was drunk, and I think it has inspired many people who have alcoholic parents. Please listen to the whole cd before you decide on how talented a band is.

If these asshole get in I will kill myself on the spot. No one deserves the Hall of Fame less than Panic! at the disco. They suck ass, and what terrible musicians. THey dont even deserve the fame they have. The only reason they are famous is because the manager of Pete Wentz told him to look for a band that sounds like Fall Out Boy. So Pete found P!ATD. They never played one gig and those clowns got famous. I hate P!ATD and shit on their music along with the rest of the new scene.

As of right now, I don't feel they should be inducted, though that may change. They may make the next OK Computer next year for all I know. But as of right at this moment they don't deserve it.

And before anyone calls me a 'haterz!!1!!11', I adore Panic! at the Disco. They're a good band, but I simply don't think they deserve it yet.

"I adore Panic! at the Disco. They're a good band, but I simply don't think they deserve it yet."

Keep trying, and soon you may become a conscious being

"They may make the next OK Computer next year for all I know"

Oh wait, you won't

""I like them because they aren't like every other band. They don't sound like any other band out there."-Katrina

Except for the bands they rip off, right?"

Exactly. Just so no Panic! fan out there was wondering, we're mainly talking about Smiths and Radiohead

"i think theyre bringing another whole new different meaning into this music scene."

A whole new different scene that happened in the 80's, and was much better then

"You can't bad mouth Panic! At The Disco until you have gone to one of their concerts because when you have seen their live performance, you have a completely different outlook on their style of music."

I'm sure it did that to you. Before, you were so assured of Welcome to the Black Parade being the greatest album ever. But NOW look!

"they a a very good band you haters need to stop hating!!!!"

Mistake. Haterz is spelt with a Z, you numpty

"Have you even looked at who was inducted this year? I mean, come on! Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five? They aren't Rock N Roll..."

Oh, so Panic! are, then?

"They even got a Rolling Stone cover [it's on my wall] before Fall Out Boy did"

Good for you, but so you know, the only thing Rolling Stone seems able to do is get the page numbers right

"if you dont have anything nice to say, mind your own damn buisness and dont say anything at all"

Damn, I can't think of an argument OR a witty remark against that one! How I wish for a site where only Fanboys and girls comment, and haterzzzzz are banned

Posted by liam on Saturday, 09.8.07 @ 12:39pm

Of course it is too soon to tell, but I am going to post my observations on their future potential.

There are several reasons why I think they already deserve respect and will likely gain much more eventually. Even in their raw demo recordings they demonstrated an affinity for melodic songwriting and variation in sound, as well as lyrics that are both eccentric and sophisticated---some containing literary references, and others revealing the consequences of addiction. These aspects of those songs remained characteristic of their songwriting as they continued work on their first album, but were developed much further and were used in exploring different styles and instrumentation. Just compare "Time to Dance" to "There's a Good Reason" to witness their vast progression from techno/punk to a cabaret/pop sound. I enjoy both, but I especially appreciate the more theatrical elements that were utilized in their later songs as well as very much in their concerts and videos.

Now, MOST IMPORTANTLY are the signs of them becoming an enduring band. They have fully indicated their commitment to further growth in artistry. This includes learning more instruments and continuing to explore different styles in new songs that they have already performed recently. They demonstrate better than most bands an appreciation for classic music of many kinds from which they draw inspiration to create unique and beautiful songs. They are also quite fastidious about their music: they spent a good deal of time secluded to write their second album, and some material they played that might have been from that effort sounded excellent; but they decided to rewrite the entire thing so that it "felt" more like them. Yet their first attempt was quite creative as it was written as a concept album that they described as "like a film score." I still hope to hear more from this someday, but I am also looking forward to their album that will supposedly be released in February 2008.

I may expand on some of these points depending on whether they receive response, and I certainly hope they will be considered by many.

Posted by Grace on Tuesday, 10.23.07 @ 20:01pm

They are a half assed band but no way in hell will/should make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Posted by Todd on Friday, 11.2.07 @ 16:24pm

Dudes, these guys are fuckin' no shows. I know one has a better chance of squeezing water from a rock than talking sense into a Panic At the Disco fanboy, but COME ON PEOPLE- GROW A FUCKING BRAIN!'KAY?! What have these assholes done in the past four years? The answer? NOTHIN'! Ever since their first album, which was mediocre,(seriously: it was just BARELY a critical success-I refuse to say that it being a commercial success matters, because people are morons and everyone's willing to drop everything to be part of something) they've done jack shit. Now, I could understand if their first album was this huge, gripping new-age Beatles monster of a success, but it wasn't, so they have no reason to be stalling for half a decade. They haven't created anything beautiful for moving or deep or even just plain cool, ya know? I can think of half a dozen bands that play the same type of music, but do it loads better. So, in summary, FUCK PANIC AT THE DISCO! (What the hell's up with that exclamation point anyway? IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU ARTSY! IT MAKES YOU HOMOS!)

Clearly heavily influenced by the Beatles, just lacking inspiration or the talent to make quality music. They should not be inducted based on what they have put out so far.

Posted by Ren on Sunday, 03.9.08 @ 04:06am

All the people who say they hate Panic at the Disco because they're manufactered need to learn that bands can make good music even if Pitchfork isn't worshiping them.
That being said, I don't think that Panic should not be inducted into the hall of fame. They've made some good music, but I don't think they'll be very influential, nor have they been very innovative. Just because I like a band doesn't mean they need to be part of the rock and roll hall of fame.

Posted by Vicky on Thursday, 09.11.08 @ 18:51pm

I am going to open up myself to a lot of flack on this one, but here goes... I voted yes to Panic at the Disco.

Two days ago I was flipping through the T.V. stations when I hit an MTV off-shoot channel. They were playing live cuts from the latest acts, and most of them fell under the loose heading of "rock". Fact is, it was all bands like Metro Station/Boys Like Girls (or is that Girls like Boys?) and the sort. While looking at it for a minute, they focused on the crowd, who were mostly young girls. What really got me was how passionately they were singing along. They knew all the words to everything, and during the few times I have actually tried to listen to these acts, I can't make out a single thing they say.

It struck me the way the young girls were when I was growing up. They were so totally into people like Bon Jovi in the same way these young girls were into Metro that it honestly made me wonder whether in fact everyone has jumped the gun on these acts. I can think of no one who would have said Jovi would have earned any critical respect in 2008, yet he's tossed around on this site pretty well. How does anyone know if an act like Panic at the Disco won't end up like Bon Jovi and be acclaimed down the line? When we made horrible jokes about Jovi we didn't see the 2008 incarnation coming.

I honestly cannot see a way anyone can comment on a band from at least 2005 onward in any meaningful light when it comes to this site.

Panic are so great canīt believe that peope donīt have anything better to do than write about how bad they think Panic are. I mean two albums that are fantastic like that and such an evolution!!!
But all the old and over the time freaks writing bad about them just because they like "gitarrengeschrammel" that you canīt call music. I mean what do you think is harder: make people feel understood cause of good music and lyrics or making old people without an idea what feelings mean headbanging. So the question should not be if Panic is worth standing on this list with bands like AC/DC it should be the other way round!!!!!!

Posted by Tina on Wednesday, 11.5.08 @ 04:24am

Cheesecrop, you may very well have a point about how fangirls may turn us against a band. But you have overlooked one very key difference: TALENT. Bon Jovi may have had the cheesy fangirl appeal but he also was gifted songwriter and had a pretty damn good guitarist at his disposal. Panic, FOB, etc. have neither of those things. They can't play their instruments worth a damn, their lead sings sound like they're just hitting puberty, and the their lyrics sound like they were written by kindergardners.

So my main point is that having lots of yapping fangirls in 1986 does not equate to having yappping fangirls today. Music was simply better back then. The resident jerks at this site can go ahead and call me and old fart for saying that but there is no denying the truth. Girls who would have gotten on their knees for Bon Jovi simply had better taste (no pun intended) than girls who get on their knees for some she-male wearing eyeliner and "singing" about how much his(?) life sucks.

First off - WHAT? I think I know what your trying to say, but an interpreter is definitely necessary on some of this. Not trying to break you down... just noting.

Second - "Guitarrengeschrammel". That is the most awesome word that either:

A. I Have never heard of before;
B. Is some new form of slang that makes me out to be an aged loser cause I've never heard it till now;
C. Is a code for "rock & roll" used by some secret state police in an Eastern European country.

I hear you loud and clear regarding music circa 86. I was there, though maybe not w/Jovi outright (think "Ultimate Sin" era Ozzy; in addition, I was also rockin w/ Dokken). I was thinking about what LAX posted about this years inductees. At one point he referenced the fact that Herman's Hermits arent in the Hall yet. They were way before Jovi, yet think about what most people associate w/them: simple boy/girl songs sung in a high pitched voice that barely sounds like it escaped puberty, while young girls went wild all around. Sound at least a little familiar?

I do believe that Bon Jovi is better than Panic!, but a great deal of that is just the ghost of 86 coming out of me. Girls are still girls, and they'll be screaming their lungs out for however long you can imagine (and after the recent run by New Kids on the Block it appears this may take a while to wear off). The second album tried to make a stab at Sgt. Pepper, obviously, but that may not be a style they should aim at. I say give them a third album to see what happens. It's too easy to jump on these bands that are early in the game.

Tina...went to Rhapsody because I had never listened to them, give them a chance, and came to the conclusion that either radio plays the same group over and over, or they just plain sound like a bunch of other groups...not too spectacular. It'll probably be the last time I listen to them...nothing against them, but from my point of view maybe a decent garage band.

Cheeseman...I am noticing that really spectacular guitar playing (not mindless "neo-classical" scales or tapping) is starting to creep back into rock a little more. I've never seen a time where a good frontman could carry a group. Good lead singers and guitat players usually go hand in hand...to be a great band, you'd better have both.

I saw a clip of John Mayer performing "So Excited" on YouTube...he really is a very good player. Maybe he needs to concentrate on that fact more...he certainly got my attention!!!

I'll bet you're wondering what sort of instrument a "guitat" is... I believe it's three strings stretched over a hog's rear, or something...

I gotta start proofreadin' better!!!!

Have fun trying to play that! The live shows must be really interesting.

Posted by Joker on Wednesday, 11.5.08 @ 22:28pm

I think panic at the disco should go back to their heavy rock and roll days.I have their new cd pretty odd and I don't like it as much as the one before that.I want them to have songs like I rite sins not tragetys

alot of people say there music is bad, but thats just because they never really "listened" to the music, the lyrics, and the wonderful voice brendon has. i mean, the lyrics are beyond amazing and touch so many people. their fanbase is huge and those fans are well dedicated. if someone doesnt like their music, its either a lie, or not certain because its impossible to not enjoy the music they bring to us. and they will keep it up fer sure.

This is just so cute! All the little nancyboys have their panties in a bunch because we won't "just listen to them," 'cause surely if we did, why, we just gotta finally "appreciate" them.

Isn't that just precious.

I can't wait for spring break to be over so these kiddies can go back to getting their asses kicked at school.

Oh God.
Right, okay. I really liked both albums so far, and although some fans vehemently defend one or the other, I apreciate both.

I think, given time to grow, evaluate their musical style and sort out the issues within the band, they will be very, very good.

I strongly dislike it when people frown upon newer bands because they are not what the person believes is 'real' music. Just because they haven't been around for very long, does not mean that they will not get better, nor does it mean that what they have produced so far is of poor quality.

People who only listen to what they call 'real' music are what I think are musical snobs, who are under the impression they are high and mighty and 'original' because they listen to Pink Floyd or whatever.

You are not original, believe me.
That is a massively misguided apprehension.

personally, i enjoy panic at the disco's music, but more specifically their second album. their first album has about 4 songs i really like and i feel like it was too mainstream and a tad falloutboy-ish. i never cared for them in their "i write sins not tragedies" or whatever phase.
but i think their second album is creative whimsical and original.
and that doesnt mean i have bad taste in music.
my favorite bands/artists that i listen to regularly are led zeppelin jimi hendrix the who the rolling stones AC/DC the doors pink floyd, to name a few.
but i suppose i have a big range in genres of music that i enjoy. that's just me.

I really doubt they'll get inducted. Their first album was pretty clever, a lot of people didn't like it because it came across as pretentious and he came across as arrogant. But that was part of the fun. But they are not good enough or innovative enough to get inducted by any means.

I saw them in Sep. at Riverbend, they were an opening act for Blink-182. I thought they gave an energetic set. Crowd loved them. Their drummer really sets a good beat.

As of right now, not HOF worthy.

"they were an opening act for Blink-182."

Why would you subject yourself to that sort of torture?

Holy shit some of these posts I read I assume were written by just a bunch of dumbasses who sit on the computer all day with a bag of chips and some coca cola. All of you who says panic has NO talent, think about it for about a minute, if ur tiny brains can even handle it. (4 u haters) So many artists these days get other ppl to write out their songs. Panic writes ALL of their own music....

Yeah...tons of people do that, nothing remotely special. Pretty weak argument.

How many artists do you actually know? Just because the chart-topping who-gives-a-damn dont write their own songs does not in any way mean that other musicians do. Search up nearly any band that hasnt had a hit song or arent in the spotlight, and i assure you almost every single one of them write their own songs. Seriously, people who only buy single songs on itunes. If people would buy actual CDs they could look at the booklet and see "o.m.g. these songs ARE written by the actual band". this is probably one of the weakest arguments ive read on here (besides "omg u guyz just dnt hav any real taste in muzic, I have TWO songs by this band that arent top 10 hits, so im pretty sure that I no everythng there is 2 know about music"
