even before she went solo, she was the main light of 10,000 Maniacs
Are they being considered?

Faves: "Carnival" "San Andreas Fault" "River" (great). When she is not singing her original songs in her voice (mannerism) she has a lovely, pure voice for folk & church songs. Strident for union classic "Which Side Are You On?" As to rock & singer-songwriter, you should also watch her videos & live performances. Live in Central Park: good covers of David Bowie "Space Oddity" and Neil Young "After the Gold Rush" a.o. Also "Because the Night" cover on MTV rocks. Her bands are good including guitarists.

Sorry to ADD, but I remember "Break Your Heart" is such a great, passionate song. The original video is a complete fictional story. See YouTube. You may also see a later live performance. Someone mentioned "Break Your Heart" recently. Maybe it was in a movie score.

Voice of an Angel. Her first solo Album Tigerlily is a masterpiece. Not bad for a little Gal from Jamestown NY.

If R.E.M. were the kings of alternative -college rock of the eighties, she was the queen.

10,000 Maniacs should be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. No doubt about it
