why should milli vanilli be inducted since they got caught lipsinking. they were only dancers, not the real singers.

Posted by amber on Tuesday, 03.11.08 @ 01:08am

That's the point, though - they weren't the actual artists on their albums.

I have a feeling that, if they were inducted, the HOF would lose any credibility it has left...

If you voted 'yes' to Milli Vanilli you deserve to die. Slowly.

Posted by Tom on Thursday, 07.10.08 @ 10:19am

Dammit. Accidentally voted yes. It must have happened to others, I'd say about 15% of all the voters. Off course it's a big No. This is the least likely act to be inducted. Even if every other act on the face of the earth is inducted, they rather will stop the induction process than that they would put Milli Vanilli in. A gibbon with a sore throat has more chance than Milli Vanilli.

hey, Claw...They might put them in as the definitive example of what NOT to do!!!! There's some real influence there...lol!!!!

Posted by Gitarzan on Friday, 08.8.08 @ 06:18am

Vote yes..
They like so many other "Band" were just Hollywood machines..Do you really think many of the bands played or even sung all of their music..?
These guys came clean not like 75% of the others in the RHOF,,
YES YES YES!!!

tinman...Yes, I think most bands DO make their own music. Are you being serious? I hope you're just kidding!!! I couldn't force myself to say y*s to Milli Vanilli.

I thought the strawman was the one that said "if I only had a brain..."!

If you think that most of the bands of today and yesterday don't have other musicians play on their stuff you must be the Dorthy ... Just don't look behind the curtian and it will be ok... Are you feeling ok.. ?? Yes U2 and Maddona are just wonderful...and Gifted..lol
PS click your heels 3 times.. then your in Kanas..
Does that helps any LOL

Yeah, most of them did play their own instruments. But a lot of them do use outside musicians to play on their records too. That doesn't mean they're not playing their instruments, too. Now, whether or not they're recording the instruments at the same time they record the vocals is another matter altogether.

How would you know what "most of them" really did ..? I don't.
If a lot of "them" used out side musicians then did they really play their music ..? Don't look behind the curtian, just believe lol
I guess you like it both ways..???
YES to Milli Vanilli they told the truth and got hung for it...

Don't know if I'd ever vote yes for Milli Vanilli, but I will say I have no animosity toward's them. The two guys who did this certainly don't deserve any more ridicule than anyone else who would have seen a quick buck to be made. While it was not the two gentleman (Pilatus and Morvan, I believe) who did the singing, it was certainly passable dance music for it's day. Recently I came across a cable audio channel that was playing "Baby, Don't Forget My Number", and it was amazing how much better it sounded compared to the Disney dance & pop machines of today. Even if it's not totally on the level, these gents (or their voices) (or both) have aged rather well. It's a shame the one passed on. I have a feeling that, taken as a single album, and w/no need to inject the "IMPLICATIONS BEHIND THIS" scenario over the lip-synch, the album "Girl You Know It's True" might be worth a second listen, and maybe even (and I can't stand this word) a "re-evaluation".

It is unfortunate what happened to them, since they actually could could have done their own singing. The music was not bad at all: ironically the singing was the weakest element in the mix.

I like how Milli Vanilli have a 2% chance of getting in to the R&RHOF without a ticket. I wouldn't give them a 2% chance. It's more like "infinitesimal".

Posted by Gregory Pietsch on Saturday, 07.4.09 @ 14:41pm

No! No influence, no innovation, not rock n roll, and a fake duo who didn't do anything on thier albums!

Posted by Dude Man on Sunday, 07.19.09 @ 13:59pm

I hate to sound like a ranting idiot like people on other artist's pages but uh let me think... Hell no. Where does the 2% come from? They didn't sing or make their own music so what is there to induct?

So you don't think Dick Dale or SRV should get in (ok I'm basically getting to the root of your argument here) but you think Milli Vanilli should?

CERTAINLY anyone saying an act who didn't sing a note on the album that scored its breakthrough is taking the piss, and just having fun with this.

And, yes, the chances would be less than zero.

No mrxyz. We can't let everybody in. Especially when they didn't play rock & roll(they didn't even sing their own music in this case) and don't have any I&I. Absolutely no.

Criteria: Influence, innovation

This "group"(notice the quotes because they were not even a real group) has neither. You can't just say, "Well, I like them, so 1 gajillon times yes.And no to those hypers Carmine Appice, Dick Dale and SRV! Surfs Up!"

I almost think that acts like Milli Vanilli should be enshrined (notice I didn't say "inducted") into the Hall...sort of like an entry in the NFL Hall of Fame for the 2009 Detroit Lions (first team in NFL history to go an entire season without a win). Infamy is still fame.

Besides, there is a section in the Hall enshrining one-hit wonders--and who is more likely to be remembered, Alicia Bridges or Milli Vanilli?

Posted by Joe on Sunday, 10.11.09 @ 22:57pm

I'm sorry, that should be the 2008 Detroit Lions. I'm from Detroit, I want to forget...

Posted by Joe on Sunday, 10.11.09 @ 23:29pm

Joe,

Milli Vanilli had FIVE hit singles from the album "Girl You Know It's True"

1. Girl You Know It's True
2. Baby Don't Forget My Number
3. Girl I'm Gonna Miss You
4. Blame It On The Rain
5. All Or Nothing (which David Clayton-Thomas claimed the melody was plagiarized from the BS&T classic "Spinning Wheel")

So how could MV be considered a "one-hit wonder?"

Posted by Aaron O'Donnell on Monday, 10.12.09 @ 03:09am

<<...So how could MV be considered a "one-hit wonder?>>

Posted by Aaron O'Donnell on Monday, 10.12.09 @ 03:09am

To Aaron O'Donnell:

I did not say (or perhaps I should state that I did not mean to imply) that Milli Vanilli was a one-hit wonder. Although three of those songs are unfamiliar to me, I knew that they had at least two songs played on the radio. I was merely stating that MV should be enshrined--not inducted--as the one-hit wonders already are (the hall has an area dedicated to OHWs).

I don't know who else besides Milli Vanilli would be in that area--perhaps all of the 1980s religious and political leaders who decried rock music as demonic, with backward masking theories, etc.?

Hear/Here is a example of a good producer,,,LOl
All the way to the grammy's To bad they kissed a told LOL

Posted by mrxyz on Monday, 11.16.09 @ 22:04pm

They made a monster album which had 4 monster hits (all hit the 1st place in the charts).

The music was excellent - very pro, even got a Grammy.

They were popular world-wide.

They did not sing on the original album which made their success.
Morvan is an average singer though. He is on par with all the average singers out there, some making a studio career.

All in all - they can't be inducted but it would have been an interesting band to follow if they had been the real singers or never caught. Then maybe they could have been inducted because few artists can make a first album as good as what Milli Vanilli did (whoever sang on it)

Posted by Bill on Thursday, 04.1.10 @ 06:15am

They were frauds...they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as most of these artists...!!!!

To all those that said that Mili Vanilli got a Grammy: It was later repealed when the lip-syncing scandal broke out. The American Music Awards now states that the year's "Best New Artist" title was not awarded.

The sad thing about this act is that they wanted to sing but their producer (A scumbag by the name of Frank Farian) would not let them... Farian was who eventually blew the cover after their wants got too much... Shame cause Fabrice can sing and does have a solo career... I wonder how history would have gone if they were allowed to sing on their second album... But as is... No
