11 comments so far (post your own)Since Gloria Estefan was a member of Miami Sound Machine to begin with, inducting them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as Miami Sound Machine would include their entire body of work, both as Miami Sound Machine and as Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine, and that would be okay. I'm putting Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine on my list of nominees in 2019. The Latin sound could use more representation in the Hall. Conga was a monster hit and Classic. I've always liked 1-2-3 and Rhythm Is Gonna Get You and other songs. Gloria Estefan would be a good female candidate up against Chaka Khan. I think Gloria would receive some votes but probably Chaka would finally be inducted. I agree with some of Roy's earlier posts that it should be Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine being nominated. Similar to George Michael/Wham!. This would encompass all of her recordings and MSM. Gloria Estefan would be an attractive candidate. She's very beautiful in the 1980's and today in her 60's. Excellent vocalist and knows how to sing and announce words poetically. A pretty good dancer and probably has influenced woman singers over the years. The songs were infectious, upbeat, and perfect for dancing. Throw in the number of hit songs and the Kennedy honor...Gloria Estefan has had a strong music career. She's done a great job avoiding the pitfalls of the music business and deserving nominee in the future. KING Posted by KING on Saturday, 12/29/2018 @ 07:52am |

As an original member of the Miami Sound Machine we where an essential part of not only American pop music but also the biggest Latin crossover group this country has ever seen. Posted by Enrique Kiki Garcia on Wednesday, 08/11/2021 @ 15:19pm |

Should absolutely have gone in the Hall in their first year of eligibility. A joke they are not in the Hall. They are in my Hall and my favorite type of music is Heavy Metal, but there was something special about Gloria and MSM. Just excellent dance music and a great intro to crossover what would become that signature modern Latin sound. Their influence extends across two continents. The Miami Sound Machine should absolutely be nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were a Latin band that transitioned into pop music, something that's not so easy to do. The band deserves to be recognized for their accomplishments and contributions to music. Posted by Phyllis Baye on Monday, 02/13/2023 @ 15:29pm |
