An extremely influential band. They taught us all that not only can we dance if we want to, but we can even leave our friends behind. No band ever had the guts to say that before the great MWH.

Don't forget they also assuerd us that we could act totally removed and act like an imbecile. They get points just for working the word "imbecile" into a pop song.
Remember: if your friends won't dance then they're no friends of mine.

This band deserves everything, they are an amazing band, how many other bands can you think of that can sing about Chairman mou tse tung and his misses and get away with it.

" Got ping pong! egg foo yung!"

And remember!

" jenny was real but almost not quite"

men without hats are such an influential band.

Theyve even sang about not beating your women and kids. Ive got the message! the message is WOW!

Don't think I've heard a worse name for a band.

I'm gonna bring up the video "Safety Dance" (which I think Cheesecrop had a cameo in) just to give everyone nightmares...

YOU CAN DANCE...YOU CAN DANCE...EVERYBODY LOOK AT YOUR HANDS(?????)....

I take it that this is in response to my request for Right Said Fred to be placed here.

By the way - I am deadly serious when I say I want Right Said Fred on here... I fully intend to vote YES for them when they do get on here - I left a message for the Site Admin. but nothing has happened yet - I hope there not taking it as a joke.

Hmmm. I actually like "Pop Goes the World" but "The Safety Dance" not so much (don't get that stuck in my head). While I'm on the topic, what exactly is a "Safety Dance" anyway?

"Safety Dance" (both the song and video) are both undeniably in Cheesecrop's "treasury" (which must be something like Dr. Dimento's, I'd imagine). As a matter of fact, (Do we call you "Cheese" or "Mr. Crop"?), can you clarify your whereabouts when this video was made? I think there may have been a sighting...

To be hummed to the magnificent strains of "The Safety Dance":

C-C-C-C-
H-H-H-H-
E-E-E-E-
E-E-E-E-
S-S-S-S-
E-E-E-E-

CHEESE- ... CHEESECROP!

At one time, it was very common for men to wear all manners of hats. In the 1570s, in fact, the government of Great Britain mandated all working class males wear wool hats. This band would have really stood out then. However, by the time this band was actually around, hats on men (other than ballcaps) were very rare indeed. This band's name provided very little by which to distnguish them -- virtually every man in every band of that era were also not wearing hats.

"The Safety Dance" is awesome, surely that should put them in. Seriously though, it would be kind of a joke if they were inducted. If the Hall starts a one-hit wonders section they should get in; otherwise, no.

Sam

You're forgetting about "Pop Goes the World" much better than the "Safety Dance" IMO

Never heard of it. I'll check it out. I also forgot about T'Pau ("Heart and Soul"), Animotion ("Obsession"), and Peter Schilling ("Major Tom" or "Major Tom coming home" or whatever it was called.) They should be added if we're putting on one-hit wonders like Nena and Dexy's Midnight Runners (though I love their one hits.)
