i see that you have inducted the stooges into the hall, why not mc5. their live album, kick out the jams layed down the basis for punk in 1968. many bands use mc5 for their basic metal concept. you cant induct the stooges and not mc5.

Very good group but maybe a too small number of CD4s

If only for the guitar solo on 'Looking at You.'

It would be class if Patti Smith was giving their induction speech.
Also the Sonic of Sonic Youth came from fred sonic smith.
Their influence is real. They were ahead of their time so after really thinking about that i think that yes they deserve it

I'd rather have MC5 than DC5!

I've listened to all their greatest hits (18 or 19) & I maybe should quote 'hits'. To me, only really kick ass song is 'Sister Anne'. They definitely thrashed the guitars.

Do not think they should be inducted.

All I can really say is this: The Ramones did not invent punk rock, the Motor City 5 did.

The MC5 is an essential part of rock history, defining the Detroit Rock High Energy sound that persists to this day. They were also the first and only band that fronted a political party. Rob, Fred, Wayne, Dennis and Michael deserve this honor. They were punk before there was punk and metal before there was metal. LET MY PEOPLE IN!!!

MC5 were badass.
Like Motorhead and Thin Lizzy. Badass.

It's a disgrace that MC5 is not in the Rock Hall, they should have been inducted a long time ago

The MC5 are considered by many major artist to be the foundation of heavy metal and punk. They may only have 3 releases, but they have had a massive influence on rock and roll.

I had the privilege of seeing the MC5 play at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. I will never forget the power and the glory of a live performance by the MC5. My ears still ring.

If "Kick Out the Jams" had been the only thing they'd ever recorded they'd still be acclaimed. That song alone was revolutionary. We seem to have accepted the Stooges being the first punk band, and Iggy has said that The Stooges wouldn't have existed without the MC5. Enough said. For influence alone they're way overdue. Fortunately, they must be coming up in the conversation since they've been nominated; hopefully now that the Stooges are finally in their Detroit brothers can be inducted as well.

MC5 influenced a LOT of bands, why they can not be inducted to the rock and roll hall of fame?

One down (the Stooges), two to go (MC5 & the New York Dolls).

Posted by Chalkie on Thursday, 11.24.11 @ 15:36pm

Yep. Those two should get in.

Wayne Kramer and Sonic Smith, certainly two of the most underappreciated guitarists of all time.

Their influence over already inducted hard rock and punk rock bands is undeniable.
They should be in!

The MC5 should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They started the protopunk sound/style, they were ahead of their time. The MC5 have influenced plenty of bands such as Motorhead, The Clash, The Ramones and The Damned just to name a few and they have had songs of theirs redone by other bands, the MC5 were also responsible for The Stooges getting signed.

I totally agree that MC5 deserves to be in the Rock Hall and they deserve another nomination (the last time that happened was back in 2003). They were one of the early innovators of punk rock that proved to be very influential. However, I think MC5 will be one of those bands/acts that will probably appear on ballot as nominees and have less likely a chance to become inductees. I'm thinking of other good bands that have been nominated like Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Almost like the phrase, "always the bridesmaid, never the bribe" can be applied to Rock Hall nominees who are nominated but not enough votes to get inducted. MC5, while very worthy, lack name recognition and perhaps their discography is too short for Rock Hall voters to get them another nomination.

I would probably say NO to MC5. A short peak and limited discography. Some of the songs sound noisy and they have The Stooges already inducted. Most music fans couldn't name 5 MC5 songs. I lean towards groups with longevity and strong music discography over time like Duran Duran, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Offspring etc. Also, I enjoy those groups with vocal harmony and solid instrumentation. EX: The Association, David Gates & Bread, Alice In Chains (Staley\Cantrell), The Bangles etc. Some of my FAV bands have already been inducted: Fleetwood Mac, U2, The Eagles, Nirvana. MC5 has been nominated a few times. They must have a good advocate(s) on the Committee. KING
