What an awful excuse for a band. I may have enjoyed this fake, angst-y, dribble when I was 10, but I have seen through the corporate facade. These d-bags were no better than Nickleback when they debuted. Linkin Park sucks, and are undeserving of a R&R Hall of Fame induction.

Their debut album Hybrid Theory was certified Diamond in the U.S. like 5 years ago, meaning it's probably sold 11-12 million by now. In terms of debut albums by rock groups, it's really only behind Appetite for Destruction, Boston's self-titled, and Pearl Jam's Ten in terms of sales. Pearl Jam will probably get in their first year, and GNR got in on the strength of one album (c'mon, we all have to admit that Use Your Illusion didn't even come close to topping Appetite). Ignoring the fact that Boston is one of the most glaring omissions in the history of the Hall (right behind KISS, who finally got in this year...about 16 years later than they should have!), that puts Linkin Park in some pretty elite company, even if their subsequent albums didn't do nearly as well. They've managed to survive for 14 years with one lineup, they're still releasing music, still headlining major tours all over the world, and still have singles coming out that get significant airplay. They are, by all traditional definitions, a very successful band. Look at them, then look at the other "heroes" of the nu metal movement. Korn's doing dubstep, every song Disturbed's put out in the last 10 years has sounded exactly the same, and Limp Bizkit...well, I couldn't even tell you what they're up to anymore. I think it says a lot that they're the band that "survived."

You sir are funny!

I love when non-creators cry about how creators made something they don't like.

Linkin Park is one of the most innovative bands of our generation. They're guaranteed to be inducted just by the fact that they have the most number ones this century. Cope with that, you crybabies, and if you don't like it then learn to make something that you do like.

In other words, put up or shut up, kids.

As a huge fan of Linkin Park, even I have doubts of wether or not they should be inducted into the Rock and Roll HOF. I understand many of the negatives surrounding their HOF resume (nu-metal, albums that haven't stood up to Hybrid Theory and Meteora, political messages in music, etc...), however, I believe these five points are Linkin Park's strongest ones one their resume...

1. They are one of the best selling Rock bands since the beginning of the 21st century.

2. They headline massive sold out tours every year all around the world.

3. While some people find their different music styles a negative, I look at it as a positive. Rather than coasting through their albums, Linkin Park is always trying to change it up. I believe no Linkin Park album sounds or feels the same, which is the hallmark of creativity in music.

4. They have been a massive mainstream success, from their music being used for events as big as the NBA playoffs on TNT theme song multiple times, to their songs being used as the title track in major motion pictures...

5. They are primed to continue making music for the next 10+ years. Not many artist of similar background have survived this long, and with ten more years to add to their HOF resume, I honestly believe the band will only get stronger over time...

So do I think Linkin Park will be in the Rock and Roll HOF? I'm not sure. But do I think that they will deserve entry when they become eligible? I believe they will have at minimum earned the right to be nominated.

Ultimately, I believe Linkin Park will deserve entry into the HOF, even if it takes a few years after being eligible...

Whether you people like them or not; they're one of the biggest bands in the world, and not to mention they have a one of a kind sound. Yes, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, etc have some of the same elements that LP has, but they werent as successful with it as Linkin Park was. Very special band and we all know they will make it into the Hall OF Fame, so this topic is just a waste of time.

Posted by Joel on Monday, 12/7/2015 @ 11:57am

I voted yes even though I dislike them. They are really popular and willing to experiment even if what they produce is stuff I avoid.

Linkin Park is the most versatile band of all time. They have fans from many backgrounds. Some metal fans like them, some hip hop fans like them, some pop fans like it, etc. Being mainstream is not always a negative things, and they're the living proof. If you don't like LP it's your choice but anybody who says they're not good or versatile is not being objective. They MUST be included.

Condolences to the fans of the band; and to the family and friends.

I've never been a fan; hearing their music all over the place again yesterday and today due to the death of Chester has not increased my appreciation for their music. But I know how it feels to lose a musical hero, and 41 years old is way too young for one to move on.

Linkin Park's commercial success has been prolonged - no flash in the pan status here; and they have been extremely influential in the sound of modern Rock radio throughout this new millenium (even if I dislike the results of that influence).

Therefore I have to begrudgingly say that they deserve their spot in the HOF when the time comes due - just like some past bands that I personally dislike but can not possibly pretend did not earn their spots in the HOF based on their influence and success.

So when the time comes, you have my support; just like the Kiss Army did when they were clamoring to get their favorite band in to the HOF. I hate Kiss, but they too were far too historically important of a band to continue to exclude.

I get the hardcore music purists might not like Linkin Park. If you have something against their technique or originality, that's fine. But their real contribution is emotional. Their songs were 'the' anthem for those growing up in the early 2000s.

Posted by Dinh on Thursday, 08/31/2017 @ 23:05pm

Linkin Park is to my generation what the Beatles were to the Baby Boomers and U2 is to Generation X. I've been a huge fan of them and their music since I was eleven (now twenty-seven).

They're one of the "giants" of the 21st Century, and it's very likely these guys will get in right off the bat.

100 million copies - including singles - sold worldwide, lots of memorable songs, two Grammys, six American Music Awards, four VMA's, six number one albums on the Billboard 200, and a debut album that doesn't stop selling.

LP has achieved either critical or commercial acclaim for their wide, one of a kind body of work. Even if you're not a fan of them, you can't deny that they blurred the lines of genre.

They might be one of those bands for people who listen to everything. Hard rock, punk, alternative, hip-hop/rap, pop, electronic, dance, industrial, experimental, folk, metal, country, R&B. LP has dabbled in them all.

And because of that, many acts have cited them as one of their influences. Of Mice & Men, From Ashes to New, Starset, Red, Hollywood Undead, Hoobastank, Bring Me the Horizon, Evanescene, Issues, Proyecto Eskhata, A Day to Remember, Escape the Fate, Falling In Reverse, One OK Rock, Bishop Nehru, Machine Gun Kelly, Misono, Girl on Fire, Manafest, Silentó, 3OH!3, The Prom Kings, AJ Tracey, Kiiara, The Chainsmokers, Kevin Rudolf, blackbear, Tokio Hotel, Stormzy, Tech N9ne, and more.

We may not know how they're gonna continue without Chester, but they still got a lot potential to expand their musicianship. You don't have to be a part of the music industry to understand the impact LP has had over the years.

The late Chester Bennington's newest song with Lamb of God's Mark Morton.

"As promised, Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton has teamed up with late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington for a new song called "Crossed Off."

The song, which can be streamed below via a new lyric video, is decidedly more aggressive than the music typically associated with Linkin Park. It pays off, however, as Bennington shines atop Morton's heavy guitars."

“With rapper Mike Shinoda claiming co-frontman duties alongside singer Chester Bennington, Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory marks one of the few records of this nu metal period that hasn’t been outright dismissed by today’s listeners. The Midwest crew’s credibility extended to their 2002 set of remixes and redos called Reanimation, which boasted appearances by a ton of hip-hop notables such as Alchemist, Black Thought, and Pharoahe Monch as well as a single mixed by Orgy. That evident respect for the genre made the Jay-Z mash-up EP Collision Course even more of an event, with its spliced take on hits from both acts.”

How Mike Shinoda Inspired a Generation of Hip-Hop Fans

Found a great article about him!

“Shinoda’s eclecticism empowered him to synthesize groups of people who would otherwise never come together. Hip-hop fans could turn to Shinoda’s associations with certified underground acts. Artists like Lupe Fiasco could see how Shinoda was extending hip-hop into a place never foreseen; within the paradigms of rock music, giving a voice to the depression and angst of the youth. Rock fans could appreciate the seamlessly incorporated hip-hop rhythms and rhymes that Shinoda brought to the table; many who did not see the appeal of hip-hop due to media-incentivized misconceptions could finally figure out what they’d been missing. Young people from cushy homes in the burbs who consciously veered away from the vigor of "typical" hip-hop music now had a palatable entry to the genre; your mom wasn’t likely to yell at you for bumping Meteora. And of course, people of Asian descent finally had a face to identify with, in what was slowly becoming the nation’s most popular genre—the culture for cool kids and rebels.”

TRASH BOAT HAVE COVERED LINKIN PARK’S GIVEN UP

“In an interview explaining the cover, frontman Tobi Duncan says: “I remember it becoming one of my favourite Linkin Park songs just for the really long scream at the end – I think it’s 18 seconds that Chester [Bennington] holds those two notes. I remember thinking, ‘There’s no way that that’s humanly possible for a man to do that.’ But my guy Chester had the lungs, and he absolutely smashed it. It’s definitely one of my favourite Linkin Park songs.”

“Given Up” is one of the punkiest LP songs I’ve ever heard, and also the best from Minutes To Midnight. I also love the Dead Kennedys-like walking bassline.

UG's Battle Royale: Why Linkin Park's 'Meteora' Is The Best Album Of The Century...

“In conclusion, the impact of "Meteora" (pun totally intended) drastically changed the musical landscape of 21st century. The album is not an overly complex affair, but its elegant simplicity helped a vast new audience connect to it, and given the sheer, serene force of it, "Meteora" feels much more robust than many an experimental project to date. While purists might say that it feels unoriginal due to sounding similar to "Hybrid Theories", the argument falls flat when you realize that the sole contender to one's originality is oneself. Most importantly, "Meteora" gave a powerful voice to a vast spectrum of darker human emotions with such truthfulness that no album has ever done before, and this is why I think that "Meteora" is the best album of the 21st century so far.”

“I really love Linkin Park, and I loved Chester Bennington, and it is horrible what happened to him. I grew up listening to him because my dad would make these mixtapes with a lot of different artists - Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, The Beatles, Sarah McLachlan, I just really loved Linkin Park, and their production is really sick.”

Innovation: fused rap, electronica, alternative and metal
Influence: Linkin Park left a heavy impact on modern rock. Hundreds of artists have been influenced by their sound.
Commercial success: Hell yes. They've sold 70 million albums worldwide, including a diamond debut. They charted three top 10 hits on the Hot 100, 11 number ones on Alternative radio, and eight #1's on Mainstream Rock.
Critical acclaim: Not much to speak of, but the band has won two Grammys.

Linkin Park has a pretty good chance of making the hall.

Hybrid Theory will turn twenty this year. Sooner or later, Linkin Park - and other bands who were on a rise in the 2000's - will enter the classic rock column from your local radio stations. Almost a decade ago, most of the stations' format inducted the 90's as an expansive, and this won't be no different to the 2000's.

A couple Imagine Dragon's songs (yes I will count them). Guns n Roses, November Rain. And yeah that's basically all I am willing to count though I might have missed one. For Linkin Park to have 2, (Numb is at 1.4 billion) is insane.

Whoops apparently I missed Bohemian Rhapsody and Zombie. Whoops.

Posted by Ender on Sunday, 08/2/2020 @ 23:56pm

@ Ender

The music video of Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" also have more than a billion views on YouTube too. System of a Down's "Chop Suey" is next.

Looking at the older comments, I think that they would be very different if they heard Linkin Park's newer music. (After 2003). Their sound started as their iconic nu-metal music with songs like Crawling, In the End, and Numb but then started to incorporated many different types of music like heavier rock with No More Sorrow, electronic rock with The Catalyst, (imo) better electronic rock with Burn It Down, rock ballad type music with Final Masquerade, and then started to go into more alternative/pop rock music with their album One More Light. They also sounded amazing live in concert, almost like the recorded songs. Overall, they were an amazing and revolutionary band that more than deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the future.

First reaction: Linkin Park's Pictureboard, the song fans waited 20 years to hear

"Pictureboard" by Linkin Park

One of the commenters said this about the song on YouTube.

"Pictureboard" was first mentioned by Mike Shinoda during a private LP Underground chat in 2005 for an LPU winner and ten of their friends: "a place for my head used to be called esaul and there was a song called pictureboard which we actually played on stage one time probably 5 years ago with linkin park. we played it after we changed our name. i think that was the only time we played a xero song that wasn't on hybrid theory after we changed our name."

"Since then, many fans have been asking the band through the years to release the song. Information was leaked that the song was intended to be released on the LP Underground 9.0: Demos CD but was removed at the last minute and replaced with "Across The Line".

"In the 2015 LPAssociation podcast, Mike reiterated that it can't be released due to samples in the song, and stated "It's not worth it, man. You guys think it's like this imaginary holy grail of a song. It's really not that great."

"You know what Mike, you were right. But it was worth it.... New LP tracks are always great to hear for the first time."

Linkin Park was one of the biggest artists of the 2000's, with songs that still get heavy airplay and sales decades later. They directly influenced today's alternative/mainstream rock.

These musicians are defying and recreating our ideas of genre

" Four artists from the past and present have made their mark going against the grain"

"On Oct. 23, 2000, "Hybrid Theory" was released through Warner Bros, the debut album from rock-rap group Linkin Park. That's right, rock-rap. The dynamic between MC Mike Shinoda and the late Chester Bennington is something that by any means shouldn't work, but does so seamlessly. Tracks like "In the End" and "A Place for My Head" display the perfectly executed back and forth of Shinoda's rapped verses and Bennington's clean, sometimes screamed vocals. Joe Hahn, or "Mr. Hahn" under his DJ persona, manns the turntables, scratching, sampling and programming every song—adding another unique feature to the band's sound that is spotlighted on "Cure for the Itch." The entire album (with the latter being the exception) is a perfect example of how vastly different styles of voice like Shinoda and Bennington can come together on a single track and make something extraordinary. The group went on to release six more studio albums until the death of front man Chester Bennington in July of 2017. The other band members alongside other prominent musicians such as Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker of Blink-182, Machine Gun Kelly, Oliver Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon, Jeremy McKinnon of A Day to Remember, Jonathan Davis of Korn and others put on a memorial show on Oct. 27, 2017 at the Hollywood Bowl. According to Shinoda the group is likely to continue without Bennington, explaining in an interview with Rock Antenne that "We all thrive making and performing music."

Look, regardless of how a solid group of you all feel, Linkin Park continued in their own genre when it was considered "obsolete". The "Nu-Metal" genre is over and, if I want to be particular, never truly began. The likes of Limp Bizkit didn't survive the wave after wave that is the ever-changing cycle of popular music. Can you honestly say the same for other artists that were big at the time? You can't say Korn, they came out before that. This argument, however, isn't about longevity, it's about impact.

Do I need to bring up Projekt Revolution and how nearly every artist that played that circuit was more than impressed at the drive and ambition to change the face of Rock as the world knew it? How about the fact that one single on their debut record has the honour of one of the most popular songs of the 2000's? What about the dedication to musicianship that's displayed on each record, giving each member of the group time in the spotlight? You guys really think it was Chester, Mike and four dudes they just picked up off the side of the road?

This is January of 2021. Chester has been gone for three years. Even now, I come across artists that claim that Linkin Park was an incredible early influence. Ostracizing longevity, I truthfully cannot think of another group that had the same impact on the face of Rock at the time, save for maybe My Chemical Romance. That era is known for Linkin Park and would be more than a flagship to see them inducted. It would be well deserved.

"I think it's very possible that Linkin Park could be the 3rd metal band (under modern definitions, classic definitions would include several inductees like Bon Jovi, AC/DC, KISS, and Def Leppard) to be inducted."

When it comes to heavy music in general, LP is - or maybe was - an adjacent-hardcore band like Nirvana cause of their alternative roots. Metal is more based on blues and surf rock, making those glimpses of the genres as a requirement to be metal musically. So yeah, I would argue they're more on the punk side, and you could easily those kind of influences after the first two albums like "Given Up" from Minutes To Midnight.

But I will say their closest metal-inspired song is "War" from the Hunting Party cause of the bluesy, Motörhead-esque guitar solo.

They'll get in on their first year of eligibility. I can see it happening.

RIP Chester.

Absolutely first ballot. Look at the numerous band citing them as references and the huge amount of certifications. Linkin Park broke down so many genre boundaries which can't be ignored.

There is nobody else on the radar I can see (after the Foo fighters got in this year) as being the clearest case of first year entry.

They definitely should be in! They are one of the all time greatest bands.

Posted by Stephanie on Thursday, 07/22/2021 @ 14:41pm

Anyone who says they shouldnt get in is delusional... they defined a generation. They should get in the hall 5 years from now they definitely deserve it

Posted by Trent on Thursday, 07/22/2021 @ 15:34pm

Also i think bleed it out, faint, what ive done, somewhere i belong and breaking the habit should be listed as essential songs

Posted by Trent on Thursday, 07/22/2021 @ 15:36pm

^I agree with you. Also add Minutes To Midnight as an essential album

Posted by Henry on Saturday, 07/24/2021 @ 23:02pm

My granddaughter who is 13 and I have one thing in common....Linkin Park .. seriously.... One More Light is a cross generational album that will eventually be recognized as a masterpiece

Posted by Mark on Monday, 08/30/2021 @ 23:50pm

Surprised they're not in Rock Hall Projected. First ballot lock.

Posted by Henry on Tuesday, 09/21/2021 @ 18:42pm

They're world wide famous, they have impacted so many people and every song comes from their deepest heart. You can't beat music that has true meaning.

Posted by Tyler on Saturday, 11/20/2021 @ 07:39am

Chester Bennington... a once in a generation talent. Up there with the likes of Freddie Mercury. They are a rock and roll hall of fame band.

Posted by Kyle on Thursday, 01/6/2022 @ 00:06am

They should be, If you set yourself on fire because they get inducted, i will personally give you petroleum for the flames

Posted by LB on Friday, 03/18/2022 @ 18:21pm

^They absolutely will be. They'll get inducted in their first year of eligibility.

Posted by Henry on Saturday, 03/19/2022 @ 16:46pm

they are definitely getting in!!!!

Posted by kirsten on Monday, 03/28/2022 @ 19:15pm

The critics of the rock generally never wanted them, I don't think they will come in, they are a commercial band

Posted by Nick on Friday, 05/13/2022 @ 22:57pm

They go in. They were the biggest rock band of the 2000's, and influenced so many people to get into rock. They deserve the rock and roll hall of fame, they were the last real rock band that were truly superstars

Posted by Joe on Wednesday, 01/25/2023 @ 20:07pm

it seems completely untenable for these guys to not be in as soon as they're eligible.

It's a real punch in the gut knowing the person helped you not to commit suicide commited suicide". Rest in peace Chester Bennington.

I have been listening to Linkin Park for 23 years now, and no band has connected with me like they have. They are legends that deserve the Hall of Fame. RIP Chester

Posted by Jason on Sunday, 08/20/2023 @ 02:58am

They will not be inducted in their first eligible year but they may be inducted eventually like Journey.
