The problem here is "influential." I own several Lenny Kravitz albums and I like them, but I can't say he influenced anything at all. He's just really good at aping other styles.

Lenny's case for the Rock Hall probably isn't definite at this point, due in large part to the fact that he isn't the most innovative artist. However, he has outstanding credentials in other categories, including musical talent and broad appeal. He is one of few modern-day mainstream rock artists who actually has musical talent, given his ability to sing well and play so many instruments. He also writes some sweet songs. I especially love his guitar riff on "Rock & Roll Is Dead". Personally, I'd rather see Lenny in the Rock Hall than Green Day.

millions can sing and play better than him. he's nothing special. he just got lucky.

millions of people can't play or sing better than him, that is a ludicrous statement.then millions of people would have multi platinum albums and hit singles, almost everybody would be doing it.

It's funny how people say he aped others and yet hasn't every artist? Including ones like Led Zeppelin? Hasn't everyone been influenced by Robert Johnson, Les Paul, BB King, Chuck Berry and countless others? Can't you hear it in the great artsist?

It's even funnier now that other artists are being compared to him. The guy has 4 consecutive male rock vocal Grammy awards, sold over 33 million albums around the globe and not onlt writes his own songs but he plays almost every instrument and arrainges the songs as well.

Lenny's global influence is obvious and easily makes him worthy of being inducted. In fact, he's the only artist that came out around his time that is still around and his last album went to number 3 on Billboard.

Lenny rocks and if you've ever seen him live, you'd know he embodies what rock is all about.

The only reason Lenny didn't influence as many people as some of the earlier rockers is because the landscape of music has changed so much that it's almost impossible for a true rocker like Lenny to influence people like his influencers did. Who cares about influencing others anyway? He is a great rocker- one of the best, maybe even top five in terms of the past two decades. Besides, it's still early to see who he's influenced, seeing as how his best years are a little over a decade in the past. Give him some time.

I preface my comment by saying that I like Lenny's music a lot. I have his whole catalogue, although I was disappointed with his last offering. That being said, he is not a major influence on the musical landscape. He did reformat 70's rock somewhat and added his own personality to it and came up with a great noise and in doing so, helped perpetuate RnR as an artform. At best, he is on the fence leaning the wrong way. But he still has a few years t od something really special before his eligibility arrives.

yeah i agree its a little to early to tell if he would be inducted but the guys got serious musical talent and growing up on lenny, hes influenced even my own musical career but not so much famous artist yet he still has some time left, but you also have to ask yourself how many artists out today write there own material, play all there own instruments, and arrange them, and for a whole decade "great point btw" its safe to say he is in fact on the fence but not leaning the wrong way just leaning towards it and not there yet

Lenny writes his own songs and plays/is capable of playing every instrument on all his tracks. If that isnt enough, hes produced some great music that i love to listening to. Lets not forget that this dude grew up alongside fellow rockers like slash, who at the same time woulda been influenced by the last of the great late 70's rock n roll before the music industry changed and suddenly everybodys listening to CRAP (... sorry i meant rap)

"Lenny writes his own songs and plays/is capable of playing every instrument on all his tracks."

Sorry, but that's not enough, if that were the case, 1000's of artists should be in the RRHOF.

"hes produced some great music that i love to listening to."

Sorry again, but you personally enjoying it is simply not enough. There are tons of bands I like but that doesn't mean I think they should all be in the RRHOF...

"suddenly everybodys listening to CRAP (... sorry i meant rap)"

Half a century ago, people were saying the same thing about Rock & Roll...

Alot of good music in there, but probably not. Dameon nailed it when he said at best hes a toss-up tilting in the "no" direction. He wins points for perpetuation and he took funk rock in some interesting directions in his prime but theres not much influence I can tell. I wouldn't make a huge fit were he to make it someday, but all of of huge snubs would have to get in first.

Lenny Kravitz could play any instrument he wants to (Guitar, Drums, Bass, Trumpet, Harmonica, even a Turntable). He's embraced hip hop (done songs with Jay-Z) and clearly mixes funk and soul flavor into rock n roll. I'd love to see him in and I agree with Drew, he should go in over Green Day (alienated their original fan base) He sings well and writes meaningful songs with good lyrics

Lenny Kravitz is no doubt a very good, well rounded musician. The reason why I'm so uncertain if he'll get in is because all he did was bring up that 70's rock n' roll sound (Jimi Hendrix) in the 90's. I'm glad he did because he's what got me interested in that music but he himself, even though making some wonderful songs, hasn't had an everlasting impression on me as an artist.

Lenny so deserves to be in the R&RHOF. Hes a masterful musician, songwriter, producer, arranger, performer. He has worked with some of the best as in Michael Jackson, Madonna and still does. His early music is still wonderful and relevant and BAWA is pure genius. And he's not finished yet. More to come. Come On Get It.

Lenny Kravitz is an original, outstanding artist, musician, songwriter. His performances are an experience one should have, he and the musicians in his bands are the peak of perfection. His song writing and songs are inspiring and uplifting and soulful. He performs most or all of the music on his CD's or LP's. He should be number one to be inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame. He is up there with John Lennon, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye. Simply the best. Let Love Rule.

There has never been an artist who has shined a Light on love and God 's love for us combined with funk, rock, ang grooves like no other. For mainstream,pop/rock to encompass all of those genres is certainly innovative to me. Lenny has been fearless in sharing his perception of peace and balance since he first arrived in the music world. If more people truly listened to his message, there would be more loving and less fearing going on in the world. Good luck, Lenny! To our fans, you're already there <3 Let Love Rule

I say yes, he deserves to be in the RARHOF! His music covers so many genres ROCK, funk, blues, and soul just to name a few. I can imagine if there is a reason he is not inducted is because he does NOT fit into a box. When his music first came out, people did in America didn't get it which is why he was first sent to Europe to tour on his first album Let Love Rule. I feel his music has had a great influence on the lives of his fans, and I am sure for up and coming musicians. His music has changed my life with his message of love. He plays all his instruments, writes his own songs, and there is nothing like seeing him live! He is a master of the guitar. Plus he has collaborated with many other artists. The man still has it and the best it yet to come from him!

Lenny Kravitz produced classic rock songs of the 1990's. Lenny should be in the RRHOF, because you continually hear his music in bars, restaurants, shops, and on the radio. His music is still present in people's lives. You hear "American Woman", "Are You Gonna Go My Way" and "Fly Away" often to this day.

Lenny has consistently performed 25+ years with large and small concert settings. ABBA got inducted in 2010, and they only performed from 1972-1982. Granted, that group has become popular again thanks to the musical "Mamma Mia!"

He has branched out in other avenues of entertainment by acting and owning an interior design firm. He is a rock star and should be recognized as an important artist in the music industry.

Lenny Kravitz has a real chance to make it to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. There should be a real doughnut hole around 2020-2025 where many of the late 90's artists haven't dominated like a Nirvana,Pearl Jam,Green Day etc.

He's an incredible songwriter & performer. Those hits like Are You Gonna Go My Way? Let Love Rule ,Heaven Help,Fly Away,ec. are Classics. 1 more smash CD should put him closer to induction. You never know though ...I thought bands like Bon Jovi,Chicago,Duran Duran, & Scorpions would be in years ago. KING

Althougt I am not an "official" music "expert", I am a music lover, concert goer, and album buyer; which makes me an expert. Lenny has a distinctive-sexy voice, good-sound and beat. It makes me feel good, happy, sad or whatever emotion he is trying to convey or I INTERPRET from it. I believe that is what music is supposed to do. Therefore, Lenny is worthy to be inducted. Truman Capote said the Stones stunk and wouldn't last more than 3 years. Some just do no have an ear for music.

Should get in soon! He should not have to wait. Jimmy Hendrix influential style!!!

Posted by Bryan on Wednesday, 12.17.14 @ 18:20pm

Best Male Rock Vocal Performance a record-setting four years in a row, yeah that alone should get him in someday.

And he plays seven different instruments while performing ten different genres. Who else can say that today, other than Prince?
