Yes, SAM HARRIS copied Patti & The BlueBelles on THIS one TOO.

(he must have been a big fan...and that's OK. That's the nature of Rock and Pop...everybody influences...or is influenced by- everybody !!)

***PATTI LaBELLE & THE BLUEBELLES/LaBELLE***

LEGACY and INFLUENCE:

From Wikipedia:

Legacy and influence

Years after their departure in 1976, Labelle's influence has been reflected by groups such as En Vogue, Destiny's Child and The Pussycat Dolls, who recorded the Labelle hit, "Far As We Felt Like Goin'" from the Phoenix album. Their biggest hit, "Lady Marmalade" continues to be covered, with its successful covers being renditions by All Saints and the Grammy-winning number-one hit collaboration between singers Christina Aguilera, Pink and Mýa and rapper Lil' Kim in 2001 (recorded for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack.) The song was also covered by Madchester-era indie group The Happy Mondays, who spliced it with "Kinky Afro". The group's 1960s hit, "You'll Never Walk Alone", was sampled by Kanye West in an early version of his song, "Homecoming" (which sampled the group's "walk on" intro) while their 1970s hit, "Isn't It a Shame" was sampled by Nelly on his song, "My Place". Their 1973 song, "Goin' On a Holiday", was also sampled in several hip-hop songs (sampling the group's vocal bridge, "goin', goin', goin', goin'...on...").

The group has been called pioneers of the disco movement for the proto-disco singles "Lady Marmalade" and "Messin' With My Mind". In turn, "Lady Marmalade" has been also called one of the first mainstream disco hits (Jones and Kantonen, 1999). In 2003, "Lady Marmalade" was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In 2009, their songs "It Took a Long Time" and "System" were featured in Lee Daniels' film Precious.

Patti LaBelle solo ? NO. Patti LaBelle & The BlueBelles/ LaBelle ? YES.

ALL of them should be inducted: Patti, Sara Dash,Nona Hendrix, AND Cindy Birdsong.

Let's not create still another situation where a Special Committee has to come in to correct a mistake that should have NEVER been made in the FIRST place.

INDUCT THEM ALL !!!

They should be inducted as Patti La Belle and The Blue Belles/La Belle.

ALL 4 OF THEM: Patti, Sarah Dash,Nona Hendrix, and Cindy Birdsong.

Patti should NOT be inducted alone .PERIOD.(even though she may deserve it,The GROUP should go in TOGETHER.

Sometimes , the ship only sails ONCE . It should include them ALL.

This group was just too PHENOMENAL to make the mistake of leaving people out. It's happened too many times in the past.

Another case like The (Young) Rascals, The Small Faces/Faces and Joy Division/New Order.

Patti LaBelle and The Blue Belles/LaBelle

Maybe they should be inducted using the second group name with the last group name, which would cover everything:

The Blue Belles/LaBelle

Forgot Rufus with Chaka Khan

Patti LaBelle will probably not be inducted twice, but Tina Turner and Carole King could become the first women to get second inductions into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Another case like The (Young) Rascals, The Small Faces/Faces, Rufus with Chaka Khan and Joy Division/New Order:

The Ordettes/The Blue Belles/Patti La Belle & Her Blue Belles/Patti LaBelle and The Bluebelles/LaBelle/Patti LaBelle

They should be nominated and inducted as Patti LaBelle and The Blue Belles/LaBelle.

Maybe they should be nominated and inducted using the second group name with the last group name, which would cover everything:

Similar case to The Miracles/Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Miami Sound Machine and Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, and Jefferson Airplane/Starship as well.

No pages for The Ordettes or The Blue Belles yet.

Posted by Roy on Monday, 08/4/2014 @ 22:50pm

Actually, they should just be inducted as The Blue Belles since Cindy Birdsong was not a member of LaBelle. This would cover their entire career.

Posted by Roy on Monday, 08/4/2014 @ 23:19pm

Actually, Steve Marriot's Rock Hall trophy says The Small Faces/Faces, while he was only in The Small Faces, so a Blue Belles/LaBelle induction would be okay with The Blue Belles/LaBelle showing on Cindy Birdsong's Rock Hall trophy.

The group's ORIGINAL name was The BLUEBELLES.Then PATTI LaBELLE and THE BLUEBELLES. The only difference between this group and LaBELLE is the deletion of Cindy Birdsong, the original 4th member...who left the group to join THE SUPREMES replacing the late Florence Ballard. The other remaining members , Patti,Sarah Dash, and Nona Hendryx, formed LaBELLE. Apparently , the split was not a happy one. They have since reconciled, but ,today a minister, Cindy is not a member of the group, which has since reunited with the other members, and is now touring. So, the RRHOF induction committee would have to consider: 1) under what NAME should they be inducted, if at all. and 2) would all 4 members be inducted,or would Cindy be left out.To my knowledge, she was not inducted with The Supremes, due to Mary Wilson's insistence that only the 3 ORIGINAL Supremes be inducted. It seems that Smokey and Berry also did this with The Miracles, which was why Billy Griffin was snubbed.
If the Bluebelles are EVER considered, they should go in as Patti LaBelle & The BlueBelles/LaBelle...or as simply The BlueBelles/LaBelle. If we proceed from the aforementioned logic, then Cindy Birdsong would HAVE to be included, as she was indeed an ORIGINAL MEMBER.

Sadly, since , in recent years, given the H of F's recent moratorium on inducting classic R&B groups, it is probably highly doubtful that a BlueBelles induction will ever even occur.

The Rockists have won.

In October 1974 Labelle made Pop
History by becoming the First Rock and Roll Vocal Group to perform
at Metropolitan Opera House. Riding high on the success of Lady Marmalade and Nightbirds Album
Made the Cover of Rolling Stone in 1975. They are listed as Rock and Roll Royalty. Are the Rock Hall and Fame Organization. Are you prejudice and racists bigots?
