I've decided to open up the King Diamond posting page cause this guy certainly deserves credit on one front. His 1988 ep "The Dark Sides" contains a wonderful song called "No Presents for Christmas" which opens up with about 30 seconds or so of "Jingle Bells", followed w/ a wonderful psychotic scream. While watching a metal retrospective it had me thinking back to when I used to use this around holiday season on girls answering machines. It makes a great impression (suprisingly positive, I've found) and it's a real shocker for people who don't know what's coming. Just leave a holiday message over the first 30 seconds, and let Mr. Diamond work his magic. As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet this may be one of the most utilitarian pieces of rock ever. Is there anything else out there that can provide multiple uses, outside of melting gold albums down to try & fool people?

After my Coven post, I expect a flood of tributes to King Diamond to begin!

Come one and come all, to the King Diamond page.

I have to be in a really bad mood to listen to King Diamond...and I have to get a certain part of my body caught in a zipper to sound like that, which puts me in a bad mood, at which point I can listen to King Diamond...!!!!

Figure that one out...???!!!

80's onward is simply not my stronger suit, Cheese. 'Fraid I'm just not familiar with King Diamond as I should be. But just reading about him, I'm just not convinced.

I like some of his Mercyful Fate stuff. My first exposure to them was through the Metallica covers. They had a very Spinal Tapish, cartoonish image and Diamond's vocal's are kind of funny(in a good way). I don't get why they are classed as black metal. I know several thrash bands that are louder then them.

dude man, it aint about bein loud. KD's voice took years to reach what it is. Its hard to sing like that. its very good, too. A lot of his music is actually quite operatic. Like he took technical music classes or something. he knows what hes doing, he has stories to tell, and one hell of a voice to tell it with. He was one of the first truly satanic bands, also. He deserves his spot
