She as Katy Hudson is eligible in 2026 (the 2027 ceremony).
She as Katy Perry is eligible in 2032 (the 2033 ceremony).
Either one she chooses, she's a surefire 1st ballot inductee with a top ten billboard album and 2 number one billboard albums along with 8 #1, 3 top 5, 1 top 10, 1 top 20, and 1 top 30 billboard hot 100 singles, she's a force to be reckoned with!!!

Come on guys. Katy deserves a chance. She's got a descent voice and some of her songs are meaningful. Examples:
"Firework"
"Part of Me"
"Roar"

So she does have some pwer. But the sad thing is that people don't give pop artists any $#!% these days. And Katy should get her peice of the pie. So I say yes to her induction because eventually, they are going to run out of rock artists to induct. And she has staying power

So Nicki Minaj is UTTERLY UNTHINKABLE but Katy Perry is A-OK?

Also, Katy can't perform live. She's horrible in that regard.

"And she has staying power."

Huh? She hasn't even been in the music game for a decade yet.

Andrew, I am sick and ****ing tired of you always ranting on what I say about pop music. The only genres I like better than pop are country, classical, blues, and rock. That being said, I support pop in the Hall Here is a list of pop acts who are in already:

Sam Cooke
The Beach Boys
The Four Seasons
Elton John
The Jakcson 5
Paul McCartney
Billy Joel
Michael Jackson
James Taylor
Prince
Maddonna
The Ronnettes
Donna Summer

Are you saying THEY weren't innovative? Also, I want you to compare pop from those times to pop today

Karl, in response to that comment, let me just clear one thing up: I wasn't ranting about what you have to say about pop music. All I said was that I personally hate her music because it just doesn't do anything for me. If you like Katy Perry's music, that's fine, but I have the right to speak my mind about artists who I don't like. Also, stop getting defensive when someone says something that you don't agree with.

Now, about the artists on your list:

The Beach Boys: Some of the finest harmonies rock n' roll has ever head.

The Four Seasons: Another great harmony group.

Sam Cooke: The father of soul music

Elton John: One of my personal favorites. The British version of Jerry Lee Lewis

The Jackson 5: I do enjoy their music, but I really don't see them as an innovate group.

Paul McCartney: Fantastic songwriter and a great singer too.

Billy Joel: Another great piano player.

Michael Jackson: Amazing performer and singer, but severely overrated.

James Taylor: I wouldn't say he was an innovate artist. I do enjoy his music through.

Prince: Definitely an innovate artist, but a pretty weird guy.

Madonna: Not innovate in my book.

The Ronnettes: I like their music and they were innovative to an extent because of Phil Spector.

Donna Summer: The disco version of Aretha Franklin. Somewhat innovate.

The reason most of these artists were good was because they wrote their own songs, they worked hard to get where they are now, and they worked o their music until they had what they wanted.

The problem with today's pop acts is that most of them don't write their songs and they got famous because of their looks or the way they dress. They hardly ever work on their music, the sound will drowned in auto-tune, and the artist just has to show up and add their vocals and you're done. Now, I understand that back in the day, there were artists that were like that too. My point is that in my opinion, today's pop acts are more famous for their images rather then their music.

Lastly, what kind of innovations is Katy Perry using in her music?

Oh, and one last thing, I'm not a Jonas Brothers fan

That's good, Karl. Really good.

Andrew said: "Elton John: One of my personal favorites. The British version of Jerry Lee Lewis." ????????? Because they both play a piano? How are they remotely connected?

Posted by Dezmond on Monday, 07/14/2014 @ 22:58pm

Dezmond, I refer to Elton as that because Jerry Lee Lewis was one of Elton John's biggest musical influences and Elton's piano playing style is extremely similar to Jerry's playing style. They're also wild stage performers and Elton and Jerry have even performed together. If you want to know more, read my comments on the Jerry Lee Lewis page.

Sir Elton can sure play the crap out of a piano (as I saw at Bonnaroo). However, his stage theatrics (such as they are) are no where near or like the Killer's (IMO).

Maybe in his younger days he would do some of that, but now he pretty much just sits at the piano & busts it.

Elton can play in that style, but I would not say that Elton's piano style, most of the time, is reflective of Lewis. Influence? Sure. Just like Jimmy Page influenced lots of American guitarists who came after him, but I wouldn't call anyone the "American Jimmy Page" just because he influenced them. Lots of people are wild stage performers. But if you look at Elton in his flashy 70's days, it's more Little Richard than Jerry Lee. And Paul in KY is right. For the last 30 years or so, Elton has pretty much sat on his ass at the piano and played. Not a lot of theatrics after the 70's. Performed together? Elton has also shared the stage with Eminem.

Ok, you guys are right about Elton's style changing and his piano playing skills not quite matching up to those of Lewis' playing style, so you are right about that, guys.

Now, let's just drop the subject.

Disregard my comments, I choke on dick :)

No to Katy perry. Cyndy lauper isn't in, but I will compliment Katy by calling her the modern day lauper.

Neither were profound tho in musical writing/creating or innovation.
