I have a question about the date. Hootie and the Blowfish's first album was released in 1994, which under the Hall's 25 year rule, would make them Eligible in the year 2019. Using the date here and subtracting 25 years, that makes it 1992. What gives?

Before their first album, they independently released an EP in 1992 called Kootchypop.

Wow, what a one-album-wonder. Over 30 Million Units sold, and I'm just the 6 person to leave a comment.

Cracked Rear View was one of the greatest albums of all time. If it were up to me, they would be in, but I don't see it happening. Back when they broke in in the mid 90s I don't think we understood just how special Darius Rucker was. His success with Hootie, now coupled with a chart topping country album. Whats next? One of the most underrated vocalists ever. Some of the covers they have performed are legendary in the South.

I love Hootie but there is no chance in hell of this happening. After Cracked Rear View they fell off the face of the earth. I own all of their albums and I am a true fan but they really don't belong in the HOF.

Hmm, I don't know. Personally, I don't think they will make it (at least for a LONG time), but I think there is a distinct possiblity that they WILL. After all, they were one of the most popular mainstream Rock Acts in the mid-90s. It is really a question of how their legacy will go down in History, if at all

You're only talking two albums of real note here. I know they released other material afterwards, but none of it had the impact that "Cracker Rear View" & "Fairweather Johnson" had. In 95, 96, 97 they we're going pretty good, but they pretty much disappeared after that as a critical or commercial force of note. Rucker has a pretty good voice & the band itself is solid. They're one of those acts that will always pick up a few votes, but probably won't make the grade.

Hootie will be elected in the RRHOF someday.Cracked Rear View was just a Classic CD. It sold over 20 million CD's + off the top of my head. So many Hits Let Her Cry,Hannah Jane,Hold My Hand, etc. Rucker was also a Great vocalist & his success in country music shows his talent. I thought Fairweather Johnson was a strong follow up.

Their first record was in 1994. That means they won't be eligible until 2019.

The demo doesn't count. The eligibility year should be changed.
