I would love to see Godspeed in the Hall of Fame, but seriously doubt it would ever happen. Despite the fact that bands such as them, Mogwai and Dirty Three are some of the founding fathers of what we now know as post-rock, few people really know what they're all about/have the patience to listen. They are one of the few bands in my lifetime I hope to see live.

I would give the credit for post-rock to someone like Talk Talk, Tortoise or Slint, or, if you want to go back a long way, Liquid Liquid.

Godspeed's a really good example of the movement in its prime, but not really innovative or influential enough in its own right, although they certainly have time.

Possible, one day, if post-rock goes anywhere...

Then again, their music does show how rock method can be used as a tool for modern classical, something composer/guitarist Glenn Branca proved a while ago. Except, while GYBE! are actually more "classical", they are excepted by a much more "rock" audience than Branca's work, which may be utterly revolutionary.

It's ironic that I used the Branca comparison, as one of his main disciples, Michael Gira of Swans, pioneered the quirky sampling technique that GYBE! thrived on.

I love Godspeed You Black Emperor! I certainly don't believe their progression will become mainstreem enough to be publicized in this kind of category. There is a difference between music on the radio, and music in our CD players. And that is, the exact difference of art and entertainment. Movies vs. film. Manufactured clothing vs. handmade clothing. Look at this opposition! I cannot respect the manufactured. But I do respect the beauty of music and art that is created through the soul.

I had never heard of this group until recently, and promptly went to Rhapsody to listen to them. Very unique music...kinda like it!!!
