I gotta tell you, this was really the luck of the draw here. I read the umpteenth Madonna posting, and for the first time I honestly was bored out of my mind. It was the same old thing, and for the first time I felt no urge to respond at all. I couldn't even find a laugh in it, and ususally I can find something in there, even if the jokes pathetic. I opted for the random artist page, hoping I could find someone artistically worthwhile, and it honestly came up here.

The Dizzy Gillespie page!!! Not Bad. Not Bad at all!!!!!

Cheesie...the only reason I responded at all was because I thought the comparisons being set forth were inappropriate at this particular time.

As opposed to the time they were calling us Satanists? lol

Dizzy... maybe as an EI. I'm sure some funk and soul brass players (thinking Bar-Kays) may have taken a page from the Diz.

I figure I'm pretty hard to slander anyway...ROFL!!!

Yep, I think the list of funk and soul brass players influenced by him is pretty long...

Dizzy is a no-brainer for an Early Influence. He provided the trumpet solo for Stevie Wonder's Do I Do (A fantastic funk song, might I add) and has had considerable influence on the funk and soul styles. One of my all-time favorite jazz giants (Along with Louis Jordan, Benny Goodman, George Benson, Woody Herman, and Louis Armstrong).
