Of course they do. 30+ years of excellence. It's not that I have any respect for the RR Hall considering who has been admitted, and that it took them 30 years to induct the Moody BLUES, but they absolutely deserve it. Richie Havens also.

Cowboy Junkies - A Contender to be Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

When thinking whether or not Cowboy Junkies (not 'The' Cowboy Junkies) should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, my feelings are mixed. My feelings are mixed because I wonder if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has any credibility left. Cowboy Junkies are an innovative alt country, folk, hard rocking, innovative band that has put out an interesting mix of 23 studio album over 33 years. It was two days ago that the power pop band, The Go-Go's were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is no accident that Drew Barrymore inducted this formulaic quintet into the hall of fame. The Go-Go's released four studio albums in all. The first album, "Beauty and the Beat" was released in 1981. It sold two million albums on the back of two AM friendly hit songs "We Got The Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed." The two next albums to follow were less than stellar in quality and sales. The Go- Go's reformed in 2001 for one additional album that was met with a lukewarm response.

Without going into depth, you can't compare Cowboy Junkies' 23 studio albums to the Go Go's four studio albums. It's a musical and cultural impossibility. Yet, somehow The Go-Go's are inducted to the hall of fame, and the Junkies are left looking in from the outside. How is this possible if the hall of fame has a shred of credibility?

This begs the question; Does the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have a pittance of validity n 2001? I would say, maybe a pittance, but nothing more. Do Cowboy Junkies deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? This was a rhetorical question. Do Cowboy Junkies want to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? You would have to ask them. Though, they don't need an induction into an institution that has lost all credibility from the day the joint opened its doors. Cowboy Junkies are yet another example of how commerciality trumps talent in today's music industry. Another year, and a myriad of bands like Cowboy Junkies have been looked over once more. I guess it's true that "rock n' roll is a vicious game." - April Wine (also never considered for induction) Should April Wine be considered for induction? I don't know, but they put the Go- Go's to shame.
