One of the 90's most continually successful rock acts on radio (netting more #1 rock hits than anyone but Metallica last I heard).....a guilty pleasure from my youth, they never really branched out much creatively. A "no" in my book.......think of them as this generation's Styx or Yes or Genesis. A group that doesn't deserve inclusion into the Hall, but have a massive amount of fans from "way back when" that are delusional enough to think they do.

Collective soul should be in the HOF. The number of singles and quality of music should get them in, when the time is right. I wouldn't consider them influential though, and that will hurt them when the votes are made. "Shine", "December", "The World I Know" were 3 of the Top singles in 90's Rock!!! Without a doubt!!!!

Collective Soul is on the very short list of 90's bands I have respect for, so let 'em in.

Kreist, Casper - don't you think that's a bit brutal and uncalled for? I too enjoy their 1st 3 discs, the last one was pretty good too, and I too think they fall very short of the Hall... but likening them to Styx???
The may be no more nutritionally valuable than a simple Big Mac, but they're not a Shit Sandwich like the author's of Kilroy Was Here! Take it back, Casper!

I've stopped off at the Collective Soul page because I believe they are a very good act, and one that is rather underrated. Judging by the time limit criteria, they would've released their first album right around the time that Grant Lee Buffalo put out their first one. I am wondering why there is no page here for them. GLB is one of the truly awesome acts of the 90's, and Grant Lee Phillips has perhaps the best voice of anyone in the decade. The song "Mockingbirds" from the Mighty Joe Moon album in 94 is quite arguably the most stellar vocal performance of the decade by anyone, anywhere. I've got their first release as 1993, but I'm aware the earlier Shiva Burlesque had a release in 87. I still can't find a listing. If I'm rong on the dates, I'd appreciate someone dropping me a line on this. I see a lot of acts on here that can't hold a candle to these guys.

Come on... what other 90's band is as consistent as they were? They WERE and ARE rock music. Who else besides perhaps pearl jam or smashing pumpkins were as enduring from the 90s?

I don't know. Green Day? Stone Temple Pilots? Alice in Chains (you can hear them in modern rock just like Pearl Jam)? Foo Fighters? Oasis? Radiohead? Just a few. Good band, but I'd say no way.

Good band and underrated, but they don't belong in. Just like Stone Temple Pilots (whom I also like), does anyone really think that either band is a rock legend?

Essential Songs:
The World I Know
RUN
LISTEN
FORGIVENESS
NEEDS
YOU
and many many more, so many of their best songs were not among their hits ....

No way. I'd say Counting Crows, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, etc.. long before Collective Soul. The above bands all had hits throughout their career. Collective Soul had a couple hits early on.

I would say NO to Collective Soul RRHOF although I like the group. Probably Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins,Soundgarden,Counting Crows, DMB and a few others 90's bands ahead of them. KING

I like Collective Soul but they have to wait behind a long list of quality bands Chicago, Duran Duran, The Cure, Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Judas Priest, Moody Blues etc. Love the post on Grant Lee Buffalo, Cheesecrop. They had to be the most underrated group of 90's. Definitely a King FAV. My FAV GLB song Lone Star Song. Mockingbirds excellent song especially the high falsetto. KING
