He really deserves this! He has been through so much and is still going strong, whether you care or not.. this guy is amazing! Singer/songwriter/dj/designer/author... you name it, he has done it, and stuck up for gay rights as well as human rights...

He deserves to be known as one of the most influentional people of our time!

George is a great artist and it is very admirable to stand up for gay rights and to be a fashion designer and author, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about music.
So he shouldn't get in just because he's famous or a legend.
Culture Club's music is much more influential than George's solo work, which has only rarely been released in the United States.

Too many times the other members of Culture Club have been disrespected and ignored, while the media only honors Boy George. I would hope the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame won't continue the unfortunate trend.
If they induct George, it should only be after CC as a whole is inducted.

Boy George was the "Ziggy Stardust" to the children of the '80s. He opened a world of tolerance, imagination and creativity to a generation too young to remember Bowie's impact. In his 25-year career, he is the only artist I can think of who has successfully incorporated New Wave Pop, Reggae, Rap, Disco, Punk, Broadway, Rock, Blues, Country and Hari Krishna mantras into his infectious music. His lyrics are consistantly candid and speak to the human experience. Gay, straight or bi, there's a bold message in George's music that has bridged generations, orientations, races, and economics.

You are kidding. Boy George? This proves that ANYBODY can be nominated. Keep taking the drugs George. The Koko Show was Horrible. We will be visiting your grave soon. Who cares about the hall of fame.

After Koko lets see if he lives to see tomorrow!

I do not approve your usage of my name.

Agreed. After Koko and his mumbling, don't think he will be around to accept any award from the hall. Bloody shame. He was talented.. once...

Guess talent faded with drug use and age...like his beauty.

i hate this shit! if you don't like George then you should keep your BIG mouth up!! George's been one of the most influential artists!! he's multi-talented and amazing human being he really really deserves to be honoured in the hall of fame

God forbid people disagree on a public forum.

I have yet to hear Boy George named as an influence by any artist, nor have I seen a solo album of his either on the charts or given a critical treatment. His solo career is not notable in any stretch, and Culture Club wasn't all that good either.

if you don't like boy george and culture club then what the hell are you doing here?? go the hell out of here!! KIT

Lydia, this is a discussion about Boy George and whether he should or should not be inducted in the RRHOF, the merits of his music, etc. Not everyone who comments here needs to be a rabid fan. That would be really boring. Do you want just a bunch of posts that are variations of: "I like band X. They are awesome. They kick butt. They are the best. They touch my soul." blah blah blah zzzzzzzzzzz.

Boy George should not be inducted in the RRHOF as an individual artist. What the hell has he done as a solo artist to warrant serious consideration? "The Crying Game" was a catchy tune. In fact, I can't even think of another Boy George solo song. Come on! Culture Club would be a LONG shot, but Boy George as a solo artist, no freakin' way.

I totally agree. Boy George inducted? Who has ever said they were inspired by Boy George? When was the last song he had that was a hit? All he seems to do now is DJ. That is if he shows up for the job.

Yes, he had a modest hit with the Crying Game. However, that was not an original song of his. When was the last time he had an original song? When was the last time he won any awards for his work as a solo artist?

Can you honestly say that Boy George is on the same level as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Barbra Steisand, Elton John or other solo artists that have been around for more years and still sells out arenas? Even his weak try at a Broadway show failed.

To make it into a Hall of Fame, you have to have longevity. More people know him for picking up rubbish and his drug activities than his music. His last appearance at Koko was a disaster since he was so high on drugs.

DEZMOND! WE ALL HAVE DIFERENT OPINION I THINK GEORGE SHOULD BE INDUCTED AND SO CULTURE CLUB! ANYWAY GEORGE'S IN BOTH...AND YES I KNOW THAT NOT EVERYBODY WILL SAY NICE THINGS ABOUT GEORGE!

HE DESERVES IT AND THAT'S ALL WETHER HE USES DRUGS OR NOT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MUSIC!

Posted by Lydia on Friday, 03.2.07 @ 19:05pm

Why does he deserve it as a solo artist? What has he done? How many singles has hit the charts as a solo artist? How many major tours? Compare his career as a solo artist to that of Michael Jackson. Doesn't compare. Has Boy George had a world wide hit that reached #1? Has he won any awards?

Boy George is known world wide more for his arrests and comments regarding TRUE solo artists than his solo music. That is NOT Hall of Fame Material.

HE DESERVES IT AND THAT'S ALL

Why?

Posted by Richard Christie on Saturday, 03.3.07 @ 08:51am

Its a long shot indeed. I like Boy George as an individual but i think his solo work is quite patchy. Culture Club on the other hand were a great early 80s band, they had some very well crafted pop songs unlike Duran Duran. However i think their career was too short, they had their first hit in '82 and were washed up by '85. That and the fact that there are too many other more eligable 80s era artists in their way - Cure, Smiths, Depeche Mode, INXS etc.

@ Cindy Jameson: Can you honestly say that Boy George is on the same level as Madonna

LADY GAGA IS INFLUENCED BY BOY GEORGE SHE SAID IT HERSELF. ADAM LAMBERT IS ANOTHER. MADONNA IN THE 80'S TOOK IDEAS FROM THE BOY AND EVEN M. JACKSON BECAME MORE AND MORE EFFEMINATE LOOKING AFTER BOY GEORGE BECAME FAMOUS. BOY GEORGE OPENED UP MANY WINDOWS FOR GAY AND STRAIGHT PERFORMERS KIND OF IN THE WAY ELVIS DID IN HIS DAY. GEORGE IS A GREAT SONG WRITER, SINGER, FASHION ICON, AND A PIONEER. GIVE HIM CREDIT. IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE DRUGS HONEY!!!

Boy George has proved his longevity and has sold over 55million albums and 150million singles, did Taboo the Award winning musical and the entire soundtrack and has an Album in the charts right now… His work in the club scene has been one not many haven't noticed recording the biggest selling dance mix Album of all time in the 90's with Ministry of Sound. Also George has written many songs for other artist to whom some enjoyed having chart toppers due to his pen.. Without making my point of view a long one we only have to view his continuous music works over 3 decades long and we know he belongs in the Hall of Fame. What has transpired in his personal life with drugs has nothing to do with the pure talent he has and the joy he has given to millions of music lovers world wide. His new concert sales with Culture Club this November in New York sold out in only hours and they have had to agree to extra shows so Boy George is still at the top of his game even 30 years later..

Put him in The Hall of Fame where he should & deserves to be.
