If he wasn't in by now, he probably wouldn't stand a chance of getting inducted today. He'd be considered a safe Elvis, or something like that. But what a great musician the man was. Great versatility. I've been listening to his "Happy" from Lady Sings The Blues and that is really a great song. He's also the main reason we've heard of Tim Hardin--by recording Tim's "If I Were A Carpenter" and by writing Tim's hit "Simple Song Of Freedom."

Thanks for all you gave us, Robert Walden Cassotto. R.I.P.

Walden Robert Perciville Cassotto was an incredibly versatile performer. If you listen to Splish Splash then Mack The Knife and then If I Were A Carpenter you think that they're 3 different guys. Alot of his stuff falls outside the rock & roll prototype though, so I kinda understand why it took 5 nominations for him to be inducted. He only had one #1 tune and if he didn't do Splish Splash and supported Republicans instead of RFK, he might have ended up not ever being inducted.

Splish Splash was a 1958 song, not 1957.
