This is one of the greatest oversight the Nominating committee has done since it's creation back in 1986.

Twenty two years later this group should be inducted by now. The Dominoes fame is equaled with Hall of Fame groups like the Drifters, Platters and the Coasters. The group was a springboard creating the great R&B voices of former members Jackie Wilson and Clyde McPhatter who were inducted in the Hall of Fame for their solo careers. One evidence to prove this group should be inducted ASAP is the classic, "Sixty Minute Man" which many critics are debating today as one of first rock and roll song.

It's a crying shame that Billy Ward and The Dominoes have yet to grace the RRHOF. Come on now, this is the group that gave Jackie Wilson and Clyde McPhatter their starts. That's reason enough to induct Billy Ward and The Dominoes, but there's plenty of other reasons, too.

Along with The Clovers, Billy Ward and The Dominoes set the pace for the various R&B and doo-wop vocal groups that came later in the 1950s and early 1960s. Their racy lyrics and deep, soulful vocals influenced everyone from Little Richard and Screamin' Jay Hawkins to The Coasters and The Drifters. Next year would be an opportune time to induct Billy Ward and The Dominoes.

Unless there's a separate Dominoes group that was nominated for the Class of 1997, then this group was indeed nominated once before. I don't think it was Derek And The Dominoes that was nominated, though it wouldn't surprise me.

Good point, Philip. Apparently they were nominated as just "The Dominoes," but the Rock Hall now shows them as Billy Ward & The Dominoes on their previously considered list.

Was Billy Ward ever a member of the Dominoes, or just Billy Ward and the Dominoes? Why were they only nominated as the Dominoes to begin with?

Wait a minute, why is the eligibility year for Billy Ward & The Dominoes earlier than the Dominoes? This is wrong!

That's weird. They are one and the same group. That would be like listing THE MIRACLES and SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES. or THE FOUR SEASONS and FRANKIE VALLI & THE FOUR SEASONS.
