Ben Folds Five For Fighting

Posted by Roy on Monday, 07/11/2016 @ 21:29pm

Technically, they have five now. Four at the time of your original post. Six if you count their live album.

Those albums would be:

Ben Folds Five
Whatever and Ever Amen
Naked Baby Photos
The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Mesner
The Life of the Sound of the Mind
Ben Folds Five Live

And that's just the band. If just Ben Folds were to be inducted, he'd have an even bigger resume.

Note: this comment is just for Ben Folds, not for the other two guys

Saw Mr. Folds the other night in concert. Just Ben and his piano, belting out covers and a lot of his good songs. You really had to be a fan to enjoy that show, and luckily I was familiar with a lot of his forgotten radio songs from back in the day. The first set was his own playlist, while the second half was straight-up 10 requests from the audience. They had to submit them by writing them on paper and throwing them on stage as paper airplanes.

There are many ways to describe Ben Folds, but he is truly one of the most underrated. And knowing him, he probably prefers it that way. He could be more mainstream if he wants. He can be nerd-rock, with a lot of humor and reality in his music. Ben has been around the block, performing with several great artists, such as Weird Al. In fact, the first time I saw Folds live was at Bonnaroo '14 when headliner Elton John invited him on-stage for a few songs. Two nights ago was when I first saw a full set by Folds.

Ben Folds is definitely talented, clever, and entertaining, but unfortunately falls short of hall of Fame status. His albums kind of became a caricature of themselves as his career wore on. I'll still listen to the first four Ben Folds Five albums and his first solo album though.
