HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...yes, she should be in the hall of fame...not the rock hall of fame though...LOL!

this is laughable. No not a chance.

No way!

Is this a joke right? I like her soings but she is not ever going to be in the rock and roll hall of fame.

i love how, nowadays, the people who have disowned her used to be the ones who sang her praises 5 years ago, and theyre almost certainly FOB fans now

I will start by saying I am not a fan, but I am not an anti-fan either. And once again, I find myself nodding in agreement with Liam.

I cannot believe that so many of you are writing her off. Is it because it is not cool to like the girl? She is what 22 y.o. She has recorded several albums that have received commercial success and even some critical kudos. She is younger than the Beatles were when they released their first album. I don't think anyone knows if and how she will grow as a musician. Obviously she is not HoF right now, but before you blast her into space, why don't you wait another 5 or 10 years. You may all turn out to be correct and she will be nothing more than a footnote in the history books, but one never really knows until it actually happens.

Yeah, that maplejet guy is a fan of KoRn and 30 Seconds to Mars....really sums him up.

"Is it because it is not cool to like the girl?"

Unfortunately, yes. I'm not a huge fan of her's, but my original comment was kind of aimed at music industry "cattle", who listen to stuff simply because Em-Tee-Vee says it's cool to do so. At the moment, I'm quite happy with this second wave of britpop, but it's the pop-punk/"emo" and bland hip-hop (Jay-Z? snoooore) that really get me irritated.

Posted by liam on Friday, 01.4.08 @ 09:14am

"..but it's the pop-punk/"emo" and bland hip-hop (Jay-Z? snoooore) that really get me irritated." -liam

I heartily agree, Liam. The mainstream musical world has never been so bleak and vapid and just plain BAD as it has been for a good 10 years. Every decade has its share of crap, but this era is just infuriating and depressing.

But below the mainstream there is a lot of very good, intriguing stuff flowing.

Posted by shawn on Friday, 01.4.08 @ 09:19am

Yeah; it's like these kids are programmed to react badly to good music. For example, one of my young cousins is into said bland hip-hop. So, I decided to try and ween him off it, by giving him a copy of "It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back" by Public Enemy for Christmas. When I asked him if he liked it, he told me that he hated it, and that he's swapped it in for a copy of "Back to Bizznizz" by this crappy, crappy (and gimmicky) grime rapper called Lethal Bizzle.

The CHEEK!

Posted by liam on Friday, 01.4.08 @ 09:54am

You should have bought him "Revolver" and opened his ears. I would also recommend Queen II for helping the youngsters make a left hand turn. I did this with two 12 y.o. cousins this summer and I can thankfully say that these recordings have opened their ears.

Posted by Dameon on Friday, 01.4.08 @ 10:14am

Nah, he's really opposed to anything resembling "rock" or "pop", unless it's that crappy nu-metal. The best I could have hoped would have been to get him onto good 80s/90s rap (Public Enemy, N.W.A etc.) and then turn him onto rock via Faith No More and that sort of stuff.

Not that it's really a problem that he didn't like the Public Enemy record; if he can't appreciate art, then fine, he can be cattle.

Posted by liam on Friday, 01.4.08 @ 10:22am

Modern rap isn't entirely bereft, but a lot of the gimmicky rappers are stealing the spotlight.

If he didn't like Public Enemy, I'm pretty sure he's a lost cause, but just in case, direct him to some Youtube videos of El-P, Immortal Technique, or Aesop Rock. Then at least you won't be out any money.

I actually blame the decline of mainstream rap on the perennial ruiner of music, middle-class teenage white kids. They tend not to be particularly interested in the racial and social issues and more interested in unchallenging, mindless entertainment.

Posted by William on Friday, 01.4.08 @ 10:51am

"Modern rap isn't entirely bereft, but a lot of the gimmicky rappers are stealing the spotlight."

Yeah. Like the grime genre isn't total crap: "Boy In Da Corner" by Dizzee Rascal, and "Original Pirate Material" and "A Grand Don't Come For Free" by The Streets are among my favourite rap albums ever.

But then there's crap like "Soulja Boy tell em" (with that one crappy hit with the really tinny drums).

"If he didn't like Public Enemy, I'm pretty sure he's a lost cause,"

So am I. I don't even know if he actually listened to it.

"I actually blame the decline of mainstream rap on the perennial ruiner of music, middle-class teenage white kids."

I actually feel embarassed to have been a middle-class teenage kid once.

No way!!I love her, enjoy her music, have fun of her...but thats all Im a fan but...Im so sorry to say this...but she is not enought 4 such a recognition

Yes, she will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because she is great.

Posted by robin on Sunday, 06.8.08 @ 16:09pm

Normally I wouldn't make such blanket statements, but this one's simple:

If Avril Lavigne is elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, rock fans will summarily burn it down.

Couldn't have said it better myself Trey

Posted by rou on Friday, 08.22.08 @ 13:12pm

Another example of a manufactured act to fit a certain musical nitch.
Minimal talent, nothing special except lots of sales.
Not RRHOF worthy.

Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 09.24.08 @ 09:41am

She's too young and still 19 years away from eligibility.

Silly to even discuss at this point.

"bland hip-hop (Jay-Z? snoooore)" - Liam
Jay-z is actually a very good rapper.Try Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint both great albums. He is a bit watered down at this point in his career being that he is just trying to appeal to the type of people who consider lil wayne the "best rapper alive".But he is a consideribly talented rapper. He just happens to make a lot of ass' music now.And if you like N.W.A and Public Enemy type hip-hop buy Ice Cubes first three albums.Their are some racist tones to them but if you can ignore some of that you'll be fine.Death Cerfificate is a especially amazing album.

This horrid little dwarf should go f herself

Posted by Murphy on Wednesday, 06.24.09 @ 16:02pm

WOW, she is the biggest selling artist so far of the 21st century and your all slamming her. Crazy. She's a LOCK!!

Posted by Reality Hurts on Tuesday, 10.20.09 @ 01:10am

@Lynn: You are wrong. Avril has a lot of Talent. She is a very good singer (not the best) with an unique voice and she is a better songwriter than Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera.

HA HA! That's funny. I actually haven't listened to Lethal Bizzle, but booking a rapper at Download is always a mistake, as proven by him getting a bottle of piss thrown at him. If he can't appreciate "Fight the Power" or "Bring the Noise" but listens to Soulja Boy, Chris Brown and modern gangsta rap (which is really what most people are thinking of when they insult rppers) then yeah he's a lost cause. I don't care for what I've heard from Avril, and "Girlfriend" is a really annoying song, but her cover of "Bad Reputation" was pretty good. I'll give her time.

Public Enemy is way to old school for a teenager, and El-P, Immortal Technique, and Aesop Rock are boring nerd rap.
I don't blame him for not liking that crap.

"I actually blame the decline of mainstream rap on the perennial ruiner of music, middle-class teenage white kids. They tend not to be particularly interested in the racial and social issues and more interested in unchallenging, mindless entertainment."

No, teenagers in general really.
Most people that listen to political rap are white anyway.

"Nah, he's really opposed to anything resembling "rock" or "pop", unless it's that crappy nu-metal. The best I could have hoped would have been to get him onto good 80s/90s rap (Public Enemy, N.W.A etc.) and then turn him onto rock via Faith No More and that sort of stuff."

Why don't you just let him listen to what he likes?

(Btw it's obvious that this "cousin" of your's is made up.)

Posted by Chris on Tuesday, 03.9.10 @ 11:55am

I use to listen to El-P back when he was one third of the group Company Flow. They had one classic album. "Funcrusher Plus".

Posted by Neivy on Friday, 07.2.10 @ 11:27am

Doesn't matter for what band or artist, fanboys/fangirls are always the same, uttering highly hyperbolized, fully subjective statements like "best ever" "yes, yes" etc without any morsel of interest in having an educated discussion or any semblance of objective truth and immediately begin personal attacks on people who disagree with them, no matter how politely they do so, because they disagree with Avril Lavigne being "the best ever" they must be total useless humans who are jealous of her success and are probably failed musicians. Ahhh I can see the flawed logic already

Posted by Tahvo Parvianen on Friday, 07.2.10 @ 11:48am

SHE IS THE BEST

LOVE AVRIL

Posted by Samy on Saturday, 07.3.10 @ 08:25am

Why is it that when she does a concert for her music, she sings Green Day? Why? Okay, leave Green Day's music to Green Day, you can't sing like them or be like them, they are an original. Pleeeaassee tell me she's NOT getting inducted because I won't be voting for her emo ass.

Posted by Brittany on Thursday, 09.30.10 @ 08:21am

Not to be picky, but by all accounts she's not real emo. She's pop-rock sometimes masquerading as pop-punk. If she's covering Green Day in concert then that can only be a good thing for Green Day, as it shows plenty of musicians are appreciating them. She doesn't have good chances for induction right now.

Posted by Sam on Wednesday, 10.6.10 @ 04:11am

She's a whiney brat that sings off-key. I vote NO WAY.

Posted by Carrie on Saturday, 08.13.11 @ 17:32pm

AVRIL ALL THE WAY.

Nah, I agree with the above comment. She pretty much is a whiney brat. Tone deaf. Off-key.

Laughing at the fools actually voting a "Yes". Shaking my head.

Posted by CJ on Friday, 08.26.11 @ 12:24pm

Not a chance in hell.

Go and wait with Rebecca Black, Justin Beiber and Jordy.

Posted by Marissa on Tuesday, 10.18.11 @ 19:46pm

She's a horrid singer with crap songs. No.

Posted by GFW on Friday, 05.18.12 @ 13:30pm

Unfortunately, as much as I want her to be a part of it, i vote no. When her first album came out, it looks like she would've been great for it, but when she grew up, so did her music. It went from rock eligible, to the same genre as paramore or cher Loyd.

Posted by june on Saturday, 05.18.13 @ 20:11pm

Avril Lavigne does deserve it. She doesn't use autotune or playback. She writes her own songs from her heart that are so emotional, and She wasn't created by Disney cause Avril created Avril. She has so much talent, more then what people think. Im a classic rock fan but if anyone deserves to go in the Hall of Fame later she does

Posted by Steve on Sunday, 11.3.13 @ 00:15am

I would say NO to Avril Lavigne. However,I listened to the Under My Skin CD & it was excellent. 2 or 3 more CD's like that & she deserves consideration.
NO for 2014. KING

Posted by KING on Sunday, 02.16.14 @ 20:45pm

If I was asked this question about a year ago, I would have said yes, without a doubt. Then she released "Hello Kitty." I've lost all faith in her.

Posted by NixtonV on Friday, 07.4.14 @ 14:58pm

When I am asked to sign a petition to get Avril Lavigne into the ROck N Roll Im going to say hell yea!

Posted by Steve on Monday, 12.8.14 @ 02:12am

AvriL Lavigne does deserve to get into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. sold out shows, platinum albums, a superstar world wide artist and had influenced many artists already. There is noone else like her , a princess of rock attitude with an edge on her. She s so amazing at what she does and wasn't created by Disney because Avril created Avril. I love her and her music so much

Posted by Steve on Tuesday, 09.29.15 @ 03:12am

Crazy cause she went down hill when the truth started to show. She was made up and marketed to fit the group of misfits of that generation. Tomboy skater girl Yoda Yoda Yoda. Pink was a tomboy like skatergirl too. This girl was made into what would sell and given good songs writers.
